Looking for an airline pilot and crew figures
« on: July 24, 2019, 03:53:01 PM »
Not sure which board to put this in, as it would be applicable to many

I am looking for a manufacturer of a typical modern (1960's to current) airline pilot and aircrew.
Preferably unarmed. Preferably with that kind of "i'm important" look that a typical captain has

any suggestions no matter how close are welcome as I can turn my hand to simple conversions

thanks

I assume you are looking for 28mm?  I was looking for the same type of set (pilots and flight attendants) and found nothing suitable.  I hope you have better luck.

There might be something in the 7TV lines at Crooked Dice that you could convert?

Sadly not. One of the first places I looked

One of the TAG civilians or Copplestone Kiss Kiss Bang Bang with a headswap for a peaked cap?

Nice idea. I had looked at copplestone and found nothing. Looking now there is little in the assualy group line either. Everyone is armed, and even finding a suitable head swap candidate is a problem.

You might have more luck with O scale model railway figures or 1:50 architectural models. I had a quick look and couldn’t find any, but there are 1/72 (eg. http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/review.aspx?id=1700 ) out there so it’s possible. Alternatively a head swap of one of the general business people types?

The problem with architectural models is that they simply don't scale well with wargames figures because they are properly proportioned and almost all wargames sculpts in 28mm are cartoony characatures in comparison.

Happy to do the headswap... any idea where i get an unarmed business type and a suitable peaked cap head - becasue they aren't common.  Not trying to be awkward - i genuinely can't find either.

Thanks, I hadn't seen the sally 4th one before.
The pulp one is certainly characterful, but what i really want is this ...

Rather than the leather jacket clad fly boy image

And a couple of air crew too...

I find it odd that there isn't a mainstream manufacturerfor something so simple. It reminds me of looking for firemen and paramedic iniatures in 28mm  - that was hopeless too!

Well probably not exactly what you’re looking for, won’t scale well and it’s expensive but!

Here’s some general figures of the type I had in mind, will also be too big:

Do any model plane makers not have ground crew etc? I recall Preiser used to do WWII Luftwaffe ground crew, personnel and pilots for air base dioramas.

Yes. Many.

They are not, however, available in tabletop gaming scales, but in model aircraft scales, unless you go back to gaming in 1/72 scale. Airline staff wouldn't be widely available then, either, due to the dearth of civil aviation, let alone airliners, in 1/72 scale.
