Teddy bear fur in the UK
« on: July 31, 2019, 01:06:28 PM »
Hi guys

I need to knock up some cornfields in a hurry for a 10mm Normandy game and thought hacking some teddy bear fur into rough shapes and giving them a quick spray would do the trick.  Assuming others will have done the same before me, can someone point me in the direction of a supplier of suitable fabric (relatively short strands for this scale seems sensible) and offer any tips for making the fields look good on the table? Or would carpet tile be a better starting point than fur?

For 10mm, teddy bear fur might be too long, unless you find some really short-pile fur. I think carpet tile samples would be better personally. I was mostly a 6mm gamer, 10mm isn’t much bigger (4mm lol)

If Teddy bear fur turns out to be too long, try some faux fur throws.
Available from Dunelms, The Range & other places. They have much
shorter 'fur'.

If you’ve got a Hobbycraft near you, they usually sell rolls of the stuff.

Thanks guys.  All are good tips.  I have cut up a B&Q carpet tile already and will check out both Dunelm (which is reachable) and Hobbycraft (when I am next in the area) to see what they can offer.

Much appreciated.

I think the Dunholm teddy bear fur may be too long for your need.
This is a Dunholm teddy bear fleece throw....

....which I think would look really strange at 6mm scale.
Look at the base of the Cavey in the background.
He is mounted on a 2p and you can see that almost disappears in the fleece.

Hope this helps in some way.
I have nothing in 6mm to demonstrate better I am afraid....

This chap has done extensive research on hacking together cornfields, but for 6mm. but the technique still applies...

Not content with that he also made a 3D model...
