New 15mm Fantasy Army
« on: August 06, 2019, 10:03:42 AM »
Started a new army for my fantasy realms.....but with a difference.

After seeing Jack the Giant Slayer many years ago I thought it would be a good idea to have a 'Giant' army.

So I trolled EBay and bought up a load of painted and part painted GW Ogres, a perfect size for 15mm Giants if you ask me.

The picture below is a the box prior to starting a couple of weeks ago.  I have about 12 more figures to touch and then the washing will begin.

More pictures to follow

That's a great idea. They'll work really well at that scale. There's huge potential for using 28mm stuff creatively in 15mm scale, and it helps that your average 28mm ogre or orc tends to be better designed than your average 15mm giant (there are exceptions: most obviously, the Copplestone stuff).

I've been doing something similar for HotT (15mm on 28mm base sizes) using GW orcs as giants. I'm giving some of them ogre hands and weapons, which fit quite nicely.

Because I've rebased most of my 15mm HotT stuff on 28mm bases, I've been building a replacement army on 40mm frontages using 28mm figures as trolls. The idea is that the entire army will consist of trolls, with individuals counting as "warbands" or "behemoths" or "hordes" depending on their stature. For the warbands, I'm using GW Ar-ghuls (?) with gnoblar and goblin heads.

What game(s) are the ogres going to be based for?

Hobgoblin, nice work!  I have quite a few 28mm figures in my 15mm collection.  I use them for trolls, monsters and Deamons.  I even have some GW Stegadons are war beasts.

Below is the progress report.   All figures touched up and made ready for a coating of Army Painter Dark Tone.

The Army consists of 1x Leader, 1x Army Standard, 2x Artillery and 69x Giant Warriors

More pictures later.

Hobgoblin,

Just read your question....I have my collection based on 80mm frontage with a few exceptions, artillery on 40mm and some very, very big goblin spiders on 120mm frontage.

Games wise it will either be Kings of War or Hail Caesar Fantasy, a Facebook, fan generated set called Shadow Storm.  The bases will work well with both, they would even work with Pendraken's Warband.

The army is now based and ready for my least favorite part of the process, applying the basing material......

Good work, I’m impressed with how those have come together from the initial pile, to a coherent looking army.

And that is a lot of giants!

Good. Now you need to do a halfling army of equivalent strength...
