Test of Honour reboot

Test of Honour V 2 is up for pre order and it looks pretty good. Nice new figure set and I like the idea of keeping as much as possible compatible with V 1.

I am particularly pleased to see GFN has included an upgrade pack and also provision for buying rules/dice/cards etc separate to the miniatures range.

I really like the sound of the rule amendments and clarifications. Some real improvements there which make buying V2 worthwhile for me.

I managed to get some more info from Graham who was the lead writer. I put up an article for folks like me who didn't much experience with the original edition.

I think it looks pretty good. I wasn't over keen on having to buy models to get access to additional rules so being able to pickup cards separately appeals a lot more.

Some more information on the rules changes would be good. The original game had some pretty major issues. The fumble rules were just ridiculous, and the points values not balanced at all.

They are obviously re-using the original dice, which worries me, as I think the combat system had a fundamental mathematical flaw.

The original ToH is a game I regretted spending money on, despite its many good ideas. I would have to be reassured it has had some significant work to re visit it.

ToH is a great game, I'm happy they keep it compatible with the V1 ! EDIT : I see that they released an affordable upgrade pack !  So apparently v1 cards have to be replaced ?

Craig, I felt the same as you but am excited to get my hands on V2. There have been a number of significant changes made including going through all the cards to rebalance points and some stats. New troop types (e.g. veteran ashigaru), changes to cavalry, terrain redone, new traits, reworking of honour/dishonour and loads of scenarios to name just a few changes/additions.

Graham has put lots of info out on the changes and they are detailed here:

Interesting, I didn't know they were coming out with a new edition, I guess I haven't been paying attention  :?

I do like the Unlikely Allies set.

It also looks like they have changed up the minis too? That should save time on assembly now.

Anyone tried this yet? Some of my group have v1, other would be buying v2, but we’re not sure if new cards are needed all round?
