Peninsular War Battlefield Tour - Fuentes de Onoro
« on: August 16, 2019, 07:49:23 AM »
This series of posts continues with a look at the Battle of Fuentes de Onoro, which, fought over three days saw Massena's last attempt to salvage something from the wreckage of the invasion of Portugal.

The first days action showed some of his earlier impetuosity displayed at Bussaco with a costly attack on the village, but after a day of skirmishing whilst 'feeling out' the Allied right flank, the brilliance of Massena showed through with a very dangerous attack on the third day that nearly turned the battle.
