Ebob's Rebellion range ?
« on: August 16, 2019, 10:13:38 AM »
Hi, I'm hoping that someone can help please.
I'm interested in obtaining some of Ebob's excellent range of figures but I'm pretty sure that not all the figures that were released are now featured on his website. Can anyone tell me what else was produced for this range and better still have any pics or links to pics of any missing figures.
I'm also tempted getting his rules and wondered if anyone had played them and what they thought.
Many thanks for any help in advance.

Regards

There certainly were a couple more minis in that range originally - from memory, probably some Scots archers, and definitely two sets of English cavalry (one I vaguely recall being very nice, a set with three or four figures, the riders having various interchangable parts, the second a mounted version of the English infantry).
EDIT: found some pictures, but most from one original website which is no longer active, hence massive google links to the archived images instead. The basic cavalry: https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Ffarm5.staticflickr.com%2F4136%2F4954075587_7d27db938f_b.jpg&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fpicssr.com%2Fphotos%2Fpgyayap%2Finteresting%3Fnsid%3D10950983%40N04&docid=4gYdMShw7L86-M&tbnid=LvOjYAYpViDcmM%3A&vet=10ahUKEwi30d348IfkAhUDmYsKHS9oBGAQMwiDASg5MDk..i&w=800&h=602&bih=625&biw=1366&q=ebob%20rebellion&ved=0ahUKEwi30d348IfkAhUDmYsKHS9oBGAQMwiDASg5MDk&iact=mrc&uact=8

It's worth looking around online for the current level of customer service on Ebob; a few years ago there was a long period where orders were not being shipped and communication was very poor. Website appears to be updated since then though, and normal service may have finally resumed. They're pretty great sculpts, though their slender proportions can make it difficult to find matching ranges - hence it being quite a pity that this range wasn't expanded further, and has lost some sets along the way too.

Coenus Scaldingus thanks for the info and links to images - I think I'd come across those on a Google search but there didn't seem to be any confirmation with them that they were Ebob's.
I'd read on the forum a while ago that people were having problems receiving orders or email replies but I'm going to give it a go ordering some 'Rebellion' figures from him - I'll keep you all posted.
Still hoping to hear peoples thoughts on Ebob's rules please.

Would be glad to hear if your figures arrive safe and sound, both for your sake and because I wouldn't mind expanding my own collection a bit more. Some of the new Perry Irish might not look too badly out of scale/period for some additional options now that I think of it.

Never actually played the game, but there used to be a draft version of the rules downloadable on his website.
From what I recall, there were some similarities to Games Workshop's Lord of the Rings system which I played at the time. Models moved and fought individually, but characters had abilities to influence groups of nearby troops. Combats had opposed dice rolls, using different dice (D6, D8, D10, D12) for warriors with different skill levels. When several figures fought against 1, the single figure could split their die result to counter separate enemy results. Long weapons (pikes, but also lances) furthermore allowed figures to fight at a distance. Shooting was quite interesting, with no pinpoint accuracy, but arrows instead scattering in a certain area, though I can't remember how it worked exactly. Overall, it was pretty detailed with some fairly inventive and interesting mechanics without being clunky. Seemed designed to work well with just a handful of models, but easily scaling up to dozens, with larger games just taking more time.
Will see if I can find the old document; otherwise a friend of mine might still have it somewhere...

Thanks for all that info Coenus Scaldingus. I used to play a lot of LOTR when it first came out and remember that the mechanics were pretty easy to learn/remember so that'll be quite interesting to see how similar they are.
I'm going to order a few 'test' figures today so we shall see what happens but in the mean time I have a 'WANTS' thread running to see what spare/unwanted figures are out there.
Thanks again for your help.

Happy to help. :)

Was able to find.. some edition of the rules. Kind of perfect, because they are definitely not the latest version in terms of profiles at least, so I think it is ok to share it freely - assuming the core rules haven't changed massively between then and the presently available book, it's a nice teaser without stopping people from wanting to purchase the real deal. Interestingly, I'm pretty certain this is not the exact version I read years ago, as it had something about pikes outranging lances, which in turn outranged pole-arms, so that may have been an older version. Or I'm currently overlooking it!

Oooooh ! Thanks for that link. The postman has literally just delivered a copy of an old Wargames Illustrated with part 1 of 2 cut down version of the rules, so it will be interesting to compare the two versions.

Just thought that I would let you know that I ordered some figures from Ebob on Saturday just gone and they arrived today (minus a pack which he is waiting on restocks from the casters), quick responses on emails too.
Pretty dam good going, so I guess he's up and running again !
