That is a very nice start to the new year. Great looking figures. I tend to think of "speed painting" as 2-3 colors with little more than a quick dry brush. I think you took this well beyond that point!

I totally cheated.  The green is an ink wash over white primer (that whole contrast paint thing isn’t new at all).  The guns and other gray equipment are base color with highlights. The helmets are done with metallic paint from one of those gold paint pens.

Well, that is a VERY satisfying effect if that is the case.

Great work on those GZG guys and fantastic terrain! You seem to have a lot of fun with the Five Parsecs!

Love those GZG UNSC. I have a squad of five, but I can't seem to decide how to paint them. Are they wearing body suits with integrated boots or are they separate? Your paintjob looked really good, so I think I will go mono-colour like you.

The boots look integrated to the suit. I’ll try to get some closeup pics of one tonight or tomorrow.

I have a whole platoon with Heavy weapons and thought the boots looked integrated into the suit.

Fabulous PJs on these, your characters are fantastic. Nice scheme on the troopers as well, simple and effective is the holy grail for figure painting imo  lol

There is a lot of detail on these if you want to go looking for it.

This thread is coming along really nicely! You've done a great job on those UNSC suits - I hated painting them, too hard work painting them my way.

Thanks everyone.  I’ve been working on my WW2 Tunisia project lately, so not much sci-fi going on.

However, someone asked me how I painted the character figures.  So I painted one a while back as an example.  I finally got a picture of the finished mini, so here it all is.  I cribbed this from Jagannath’s (and others’) style of painting, so I can practice my brush control.

I start with white primer.  Then I put on the base coat, darker than the color I want to finish with, which fills in all the low areas.

Next is my mid color, which will be most of the color on each block.  Cover most of the mini, but avoid the low places and shadows.

Last is the highlight color.  This just goes on the raised areas, trying to make them pop a bit.

Finish it with the base (brown base coat, beige dry brush, black around the edge) and pick out a few small details, and suddenly poor Galain is in a spot of trouble with the law.

“What, this gun?  No sir, I just found it laying by that bush right there.  Honest!”
