Chinese Roof Colors (1910-20s)
« on: August 20, 2019, 07:26:56 PM »
I'm about to paint up a Chinese building or two, for use in BoB. They have the standard tiled roof. But, I want to know what color should the roof be, or can if vary (and why), for circa 1900-20s period?

I have seen the usual orange-red, but also greenish. But, even a blue comes up on a net search, but I'm not sure that is good for 1900-20s period.

Thoughts?

In advance - Thanks.

For rural buildings, gray is going to be the most common.  But if you want to really delve into it, I recommend this paper:

Covers ancient times through the end of the Qing Dynasty in 1911.

Keep in mind construction methods varied from region to region, if you know the region you wish to portray then search for images of traditional dwellings in that area
