UVS WW2 in 15mm - PSC Cromwell - 20190825
« on: August 25, 2019, 12:41:39 PM »
A long time ago I bought a couple of bargain sets from the PSC stands at shows (three for the price of four or similar).

I just never got round to doing more than assembling a tank or two.

Maybe this will be the start of increased productivity.

This Cromwell was assembled a while back (https://ultravanillasmurf.blogspot.com/2018/01/15mm-cromwell-from-psc.html) but it took a while to get round to painting it.

I used two crates and a jerry can from the PSC German accessory set, together with an unidentified tool box, plus two greenstuff tarpaulins.

Coincidently, there was an thread on hessian netting on the Armourfast Cromwell earlier this week.

Looks really good; have you considered adding decals to the front mudguards? Conveniently, the netting covers the rest!  ;)

Thanks.

Yes, though I do not have any 15mm scale decals (something else for the Colours shopping list).

Some Cromwells (Welsh ones for instance) have the squadron marking on the side storage bins. I ended up using US stars as the basis of the 28mm ones.

 Good paint job 👍

Cromwells usually had the markings on the hull nose or glacis plate.

You do see a lot of 15mm models with the markings on the track guards but I suspect this is because the decals produced by Battlefront are too large to go in the correct position.

Thanks.
Here is one I prepared earlier.

Bovington.

28mm Warlord.

Interesting about the decal size.

So a pack of 15mm Guards Tank Division decals were procured at Colours.

The decals are a bit large for the nose.

The tank commander is still rather shy.

Lovely stuff!

Yes, as has been said, the decals are frequently too large to go where they should, but no worries.  I've seen people use 10mm or 6mm decals for the Welsh Guards side-bins.  If it helps, the Welsh Guards would also paint a letter or number within the squadron sign to indicate the Troop within a squadron or a tank within a Sqn HQ, like this:

Sqn HQ: A, B, C, D (D deleted following the change to four-tank troops after Normandy).
1st Troop - All marked 1
2nd Troop - All marked 2
3rd Troop - All marked 3
4th Troop - All marked 4
5th Troop - All marked 5 (5th Troop deleted after Normandy)

There was no differentiating different tanks within the same troop.

There would also usually be an uncircled star on the turret-rear and a circled star on the engine deck.

Thanks.

The decal pack did not include white (unbrigaded) squadron markers.

I will have a look for some smaller scale decals.

I do need to add the front squadron marker on the 28mm version as well.
