6mm Manufacturers
« on: September 05, 2019, 02:37:58 PM »
Toying with the notion of dabbling in 6mm miniatures, cost entry point, space needed etc are big selling points for me. However, I only know of Baccus, can anyone recommend any other manufacturers to do some research with?

Thanks in advance everyone,
Steven

GHQ, Heroic and Ros, Scotia/Grendel, Adler. You can look at their websites. Of course, framing the question base don what period interest you could have also helped more tailored answers...

Thankyou for such a rapid response. I will look into all of these.

Currently looking to use some Napoleonics with Black Powder. However, I am generally interested in most periods so am quite open to suggestions out right.

for Napoleonics Adler, as Baccus, are quite well regarded.  Heroic and Ros have a massive range ancient onward. I am not a fan of the older infantry  sculpts, before the current team took over. Now it is quite good, and their WW2 and post 45 range is impressive. Once I gave a painted ZTZ99 MBT to a friend who happens to have spent a bit of time close to them and he was impressed. Their newish T-55 are wonderful.  They also acquired the 6mm range from Skytrex.

GHQ... hit and hit, until you look at the price tag, then it hits you wallet quite seriously. But some of their models are impressive and one does, like the JGSDF or modern Italian Army.

Scotia, very very hit and miss... some models are nice (IDF Centurion with reactive armor for example) other simply miss to be anything close to a model.

Magister Militum, the chaps who distribute GHQ in UK have also their own Mainforce 1939+ infantry range. It is surprisingly good. The figures are usuall cast prone or kneeling in little scenic bases and while not GHQ quality, they are nice to paint.

There are also other brands that produce some items you can find useful. A new company in UK does very nice Panthers and derivatives at less than GHQ prices.

Butlers Printed Models has a nice and big range of WW1/2/Cold War 3d printed vehicles too.

Few others:
- Irregular has a huge range covering many periods. Sculpts tend to look better painted than as raw metal.
- Micro World has a large fantasy selection, some of which (Renaissance) can pass as historicals.  Also some sci-fi and post-apoc.
- Ground Zero Games - huge sci-fi range.
- Brigade Models UK - another huge (and growing) sci-fi range. Go here for 6mm Hammer's Slammers.
- Vanguard Miniatures - gothic sci-fi, and also carry Onslaught's sci-fi
- Somebody in the UK carries Command Horizon, Baccus's old sci-fi range.
- Alternative Armies or Ion Age or 15mm.co.uk (can never keep them straight but they'll all housed in the same place) have 6mm sci-fi and maybe some moderns.
- CinC, now with Legions IV Hire has WWII and moderns.
- Perfect Six has some fantasy figures and lots of bits and bobs.
- If Japanese mecha are your thing, some of the gashapon Gundams are 6mm (Strategy of Gundam line).

Still probably missed somebody, and the above doesn't include places with 6mm terrain and scenics but no figures.

it's a fun scale, enjoy!
Chris

Irregular has tons of periods covered in 6mm. At a good price too.
They don't look the best unpainted but they paint up really well.

thanks for the info, CinC has some great castings, but had somewhat disappeared sometime ago. Nice to know they are back.

Didn't help how he didn't want orders from outside the US, even retailers had problems with this...

For Fantasy the best I've found is Microworld. Great sculpts, well cast, etc: https://www.microworldgames.com/collections/6mm-fantasy
Perfect Six are also worth looking at: https://www.perfectsixscenics.co.uk/6mm-fantasy-.html

For Sci-Fi Microworld again: https://www.microworldgames.com/collections/6mm-scifi
CP Models have the old Angel Barracks range: https://cpmodels.co.uk/product-category/6mm-ranges-2/
Vanguard's work is quite stunning: https://vanguardminiatures.co.uk/
Ground Zero Games have some great stuff too: https://shop.groundzerogames.co.uk/6mm-dirtside/dirtside-miniatures.html

I've bought from all of these and vouch for them. ;)

Got some Brigade sci fi and they're decent. Pretty cheap too.
