Triguard Miniatures – the remainder of 2020 in 40mm
« on: April 28, 2020, 07:01:09 AM »
Well if bad things come in three, Covid19 was the third one in our 2020, so we’re expecting the rest of the year to get a lot better.

The plan for this year includes some internal reorganization to make the production processes a lot smoother and adding more figures to the existing ranges. Sean Judd, the original sculptor of the Trident and Vanguard ranges, has already created some new masters this year and is currently working away on more new figures to expand the existing ranges.

The AWI range will get extra French infantry figures this year, and an officer figure for the Queens Rangers Highland company. Longer term we will be adding Hessian artillery crews and the forces of Spain in the New World.

The French and Indian Wars range will initially get new Colonial Militia figures suitable for the likes of the Virginia Regiment, the Pennsylvania Regiment and the New Jersey Blues. The figures will be in shortened coats suitable for bush fighting. I've included a couple of pictures of the first figures.

Longer term we will be looking at adding extra figures to cover the European theatres of the Seven Years War.

We have long term plans to expand the medieval range. Expanding the range for the western theatres into subsequent time periods and providing Baltic, Middle Eastern and Spanish figures to act as Crusade period opponents.

Hope everyone is keeping well, remember to look after yourself.

Onward and upward for 2020 for all of us!

Is it my imagination or does the firing figure look smaller than the marching figure? If this is the case, is that a planned part of the militia "look"?

Hi Phillip
Congratulations on such a characterful and detailed range.
They are great miniatures.
My only concern as pointed out by minipigs  is that there can be a slight occasional variation in size . Certainly in skirmish games this is no problem.
I have changed my approach slightly with trident range by only selecting one or two variations in a formed unit. Too many  variants can impact on a finished unit if not of near perfect uniformed dimensions.
Below is an example of playing safe but with decent results.

Those are very well done. Where did you get the flags?

That's good news.

As a side note, I also think some of the muskets seem a little short for the period...
A CANADIAN local hobby store with a small selection of historical wargames miniatures (mainly from Warlords). They also have a great selection of paint and hobby accessories from Vallejo, Army painter, AK Interactive, Green Stuff World and more.; https://www.kingdomtitans.ca/us/

I just make up templates and basically paint them in .
Heavily folding flags hide a lot of mistakes and look far better.

Nice figures, beautiful flags.  I take the same approach when putting together 40mm units, only use a couple of variants, but have a few bareheaded figures.

It’s interesting how we will all gravitate to figures that look right for the period - the marching figures in this range don’t look right to my eye - this has driven you to use a pose that I also think is more of a skirmish pose than a formed body of men pose - it’s too casual for me , but I totally get why you’ve done it - one answer would be to take front ranks figure - and copy the poses ? Compare that with the Perry poses - they do 399 codes plus Spanish - a lot more choice but lacking the presence of 40mm

Yes you're right . I have maybe put 6 marching units to bed recently as never quite happy with overall look .
You live and learn .
That's why l went with  advancing pose for French  . It was a
gamble but l am satisfied with them .Have a slightly old school look about them in a good way. On visits to my barn  it's surprisingly that many tend to point them out as their favourites.
It's like sash and Sabre in many cases they can look "crazy" in marching formation , more unified in posture but just don't do it for me in most cases, sone have a crazy leg action , Shakin Stevens.

Have you used Trident AWI Militia figures mixed with Front Rank militia figures?

I look forward to that. Do you use 54mm houses or 28mm houses or both?

I didn't even know Trident was still around, I started building an early war minuteman force.
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it anymore and what is it seems weird and scary.
