Bolt Action - Korean War
« on: September 17, 2019, 01:50:44 PM »
Recently bought the Bolt Action Korean War supplement and have been very impressed with what I have read so far. It seems an ideal period for BA. Just wondered if anyone has had any BA Korean War games yet?

We normally game WW1 with BA so I am keen to try something a bit different.

I am keen to paint up some of the Chinese and British Commonwealth figures Warlord have brought out, but I am struggling a bit for the correct colours to use? I generally use Wargames Foundry or GW paints. There is not much information on the Warlord forum.

The newer Chinese model 50 uniforms should have a greenish yellow colour to them fading to a sand colour.

Thanks for the reply, pictures and the link.

The commonwealth summer uniform was supposed to be a jungle green?

I was really hoping for suggested paints from such as Vallejo, Foundry or GW? I have emailed Warlord but typically no reply.

I believe so.

I can take a photo of the summer uniform Monday. It’s in the collection but not on display to the public.

Think I have figured out which Foundry colours to use.

Warlord have come back to me but were no help regarding painting.

What was concerning was they have no current plans to bring out any command or support weapons for their British Commonwealth range which currently stands at a rifle section and bazooka team. Makes me think the range isn’t selling well? Consequently I am not inclined to buy any rifle sections for an initial platoon if no command or support weapons are coming out.

Is there not another range of figures with similar uniforms which could be used to substitute for any missing uniforms? At 28mm most uniforms can be altered to suit whatever Nation you want them to represent by just changing the cuffs/ collars etc if the broad profile looks similar. I've been turning German paratrooper figures into SS in Parkas recently, which presumably is far more work than altering one Commonwealth uniform into another from a few years later - at least that's what I assume you'd be looking at.

Mashups of Warlord Eighth Army arms and torsos with late war British legs and small arms would give you added variety. You would have to supply your own bush hats but easily done with green stuff. Of course, there is also the Britannia Malaya range if you want something off the peg.

I’ve mad my own Borneo era Vickers, using the top half of the Eureka Vickers gunner and the bottom half of a French LRAC gunner.

Korea was always going to be a niche and frankly I never expected any more from Warlord that a quick and nasty effort to sell another campaign book and shift some more of their WW2 figures and vehicles. Nothing especially wrong with that by the way, it’s their business.

Here’s the promised summer uniform - very unusual to find, most people have never seen one.

I have just got a message back from warlord asking about any south Koreans and was told there are no plans to release any and I should use plastic us marines instead as they where us armed. Very strange.

Maybe they couldn’t decide on how physically large they should be.  lol
