We Have Ways Podcast
« on: September 21, 2019, 09:46:57 AM »
Hi,
Not sure if this is appropriate as it doesn't feature pictures of model soldiers....but I've been listening to We Have Ways Of Making You Talk https://play.acast.com/s/wehaveways, a podcast featuring Al Murray and James Holland discussing all things WWII - the format is a bit like two WWII nerds chatting in the pub. I've found it highly entertaining and informative. Currently they are doing a daily podcast from Arnhem (don't be misled by today's episode featuring James Holland with Dan Snow - Snow really is a knob..).

Any other good podcasts of this ilk out there?

Malc

I quite like the ‚We have ways‘ podcast even if it‘s sometimes a little too much chatter imho and conversations tend to get off track way too often. Especially when there’s a theme I find highly interesting and they go off on some only slightly related tangent I find it a little annoying.
That said the chaps are always entertaining  ;)

Another podcast on WW2 I enjoy following is the ‚WW2 podcast‘ by Angus Wallace.

I have to say the tangents reflect my personal thought processes perfectly (and indeed my pre-internet university career - I'd start researching a topic and rapidly be side-tracked by more interesting but only partially related articles in the specialist journals), and reflect the two blokes in the pub atmosphere of the show - so for me that's part of the appeal.

I’ve been enjoying it, like the oft-unusual topics and conversational style. Can get repetitive at some points and the adverts get very grating, though.

Thanks for the tip @moiterei_1984

I'm always astounded that Murray hasn't given Holland what we Irish like to call "a fair ol' belt in the gob" as he seems to be incapable of letting Murray finish a sentence!

Other than that, top notch knowledge from Holland and Murray, too.  Just been listening to the Arnhem series and was a little surprised that they didn't mention the - possibly apocryphal - story of the pre-war Dutch military exercise in which you automatically failed if you suggested travelling up the single road used by XXX Corps.
No plan survives first contact with the dice.
