28mm Medieval Ships?
« on: September 21, 2019, 04:52:28 PM »
Hi everyone!
Quick question but does anyone know if there are any ways to get hold of 28mm scale medieval ships? Especially oar-powered ones like galleys? I know Zvezda/Revell used to sell some excellent Cog kits, (sadly those seem to be hard to track down these days!) but I've not seen galleys, galleasses or the more 'Mediterranean' ships anywhere!

I guess as an alternative, is it realistic at all to use a Greek/Roman Trireme as a basis for a medieval galley? And does anyone know how someone would go about doing that?

I can't comment on their quality, or if the configuration is of any use to you, but the Old Glory Shipyard has a few options.  From the photos, looks like they are intended to allow 25mm figures to be moved around the deck, so details of rigging etc is generally omitted.

Even a Viking longship, which I guess is a bit distant from your request:  https://www.oldgloryminiatures.com/proddetail.asp?prod=SVS-12&cat=389

I entered the same search some years ago and found these Russian card ships to be perfect for my needs:

If your in the mood to build your own I'd be more than happy to talk you through it With a parallel build/wip.As I've been contemplating building a ship for my Empire army along similar lines.
Just add a picture or two of what you had in mind. The longships in the picture were a last minute addition for a darkage display game. They're nothing more than a cereal packet and a nights work.

I’d be very interested in seeing this (although I’m not sure I’m in a position to copy).
