High Elves to Blood Elves
« on: September 22, 2019, 07:13:20 PM »

Players of the World of Warcraft are familiar with the concept of Blood Elves - those very high-elfish pointy-ears with a twist. In this thread, I'm making some of my leftover high elves into blood elves, mainly by color choices and general themes, but also maybe some kitbash and minor remodeling (greenstuff).

All in all, blood elves should look rather noble and high elfy, but their colors favor red, gold and black, and heraldry heavily involves fire and phoenixes. Some of their warlocks also favor a demonic form of fire magic that produces green flames, which I'm also going to implement somehow.

#1 Blood Knights on Foot
(Models: Island of Blood High Elf Swordmasters)

As the first unit, we see a group of Blood Knights, who are evil paladins of the blood elves. Their colors are black, gray and dark red. Very simple stuff. I'm looking forward of doing a mounted unit of these later.

The army will get a simplistic cobblestone bases with some sand. They're magnetized and over similar trays.

#2 Silvermoon Mounted GUard
(Models: Island of Blood Ellyrean Reavers)

These riders got the Silvermoon Guard colors, which will be the main theme of the army.

Nice.  I've always liked the idea of evil Elves, namely ones that maybe aren't evil on initial appearance.  Nice work and nice paint.

powerfrog99, Elbows, Elk101, Rick W.: Thanks, guys! I really appreciate it.

#3 Warlock & Greater Felflame
(Models: High Elf Mage and Reaper Fire Elemental)

Little bit of experimenting with the green fire. This aims to be an eye-catcher in the middle of the red-black-golden troops. What is it in the game terms? Who knows. Maybe a phoenix.  :D

The large base is over a magnetized surface, so the warlock can hop along or go on his own. The base still needs a bit of work in terms of glow radiating from the elemental.

#4 Spellbreakers 2/20
(Models: High Elf Maiden Guard)

These female spellbreakers got their color scheme from Silvermoon Guards. Gamewise they can be fielded as maiden guard, sea  guard or simply spears. Hoping to do a full unit of 20, despite greatly disliking painting monopose. Probably painting them in smaller quantities between other projects.

Thanks for the good word! Here is some more progress.

#5 Farstriders
(Models: High Elf Sisters of Avelorn)

I mainly used the Sisters of Avelorn kit for adding female torsos and heads for my White Lion project, so there were plenty of extras with these fancy cloaks to make this unit. They are Farstriders, rangers of the Blood Elves, probably boosted by a fire mage, with those flaming bows... Farstriders favor plenty of different color schemes, but red is definitely one of them.

Will probably make two skirmishing units out of these. Some minor kitbash. Another batch of five at some point.

Braz: Thanks! I'm hoping the colors will really pop from among the other units.

Dr. Brownie: Thanks for the link! Although I'm personally more looking to slap some paint on existing models rather than collect more. Hopefully.  :D
