BoB chinese village
« on: September 25, 2019, 07:00:43 PM »
I am looking for info on what buildings, dwellings, barns, stables, pig sties and their vague arrangement would be in a North China/Chinese-Mongolian village.  And then what about Russian buildings.  I have seen a couple of photos of Ulan Bator in the 20s but nothing concerning small/medium towns suitable for the Baron/Chinese Warlords to attack.  Any help would be appreciated.

My Boxer Rebellion thread should help somewhat, particularly the page linked below  :)

Great, thank you.  I had missed that.  Do the walled yard set ups also include the small farm owner/peasant and store(s)?  There is a single building with no walls what is that?  I guess that the smaller buildings in the walled yards are barns/stables/pig sties?

Have a browse through here. This is where 90% of the buildings and all of the walls & barricades came from.

The smaller buildings can be used as stores or animal pens etc, the choice is yours really  :)

Interestingly, I’ve got a set of moulds for 54mm that was done as a job a while back. There’s a straight, a corner and a gateway with two doors.

I can’t take photos or cast them till early November though. Drop me an email at the below address if you’re interested and can wait  :)

Shipka and Oshiro thank you for your info.  It was a great help with ideas for building styles.  The village is a bit larger than I want to build.
I found a great book "Local-style Dwelling Houses of Northwest China" by Shang Erli and is full of pen and ink sketches of Chinese and Tibetan farms. It's paperback and cost me a whopping $6 from Amazon.  There are no measurements but the overall feeling and basic exteriors of the houses and farm buildings has been a treat to attempt to recreate using Tony Harwood's methods http://dampfpanzerwagon.blogspot.com/
Once again thank you for the help. Hello Mike Blake!

Is that the Richard Brookes??? Hi yourself.

That book sounds great - will try to find a copy.

Doon't tell anyone but my long delayed Boxer Uprising book will be out next year!

Mike Don't know about "the" that's probably the one that writes about the British navy and marines, hi yourself, about time for the boxers.

Tony your methods have haunted me for several years to try your methods out, finally the Chinese gave me a chance and it all works wonderfully. I am up to nine buildings and starting on walls and gate for the village. Thank you for the inspiration.
