Questions about british home service dress 1877+
« on: August 13, 2020, 11:31:34 AM »
Hi,

After reading the novel "Battle of Dorking" I want to raise a british force using the perry british infantry (zulu war).
As far as I understood the british military system there are three different type of troops (excluding the guards)

1.) Line infantry dark blue helmets, red frock dark blue trousers
2.) Militia ? are they wearing the same uniforms as line infantry?
3.) Rifle volunteer corps dark green helmets, dark green frock and dark green trousers or black helmets and light grey uniforms?

I am also struggeling with the organisation of a war time british regiment:

A british regiment will have two regular battalions and will raise two more battalions of militia. On top of this there will be up to four more Volunteer Rifle battalions. Is this correct?

And last question: the novel mentioned an administrative battalion, is this the same as a depot battalion?

Looking forward to your comments
