Belgian Soldiers in the Congo - CRISIS 2019 special figures
« on: October 14, 2019, 09:10:26 PM »
Hi guys (and girls),

on the 9th of november it is Crisis again in Antwerp and the first 1800 through the door get these 2 nice figures of Belgian soldiers in the Congo. They are called Lt. Lippens (lying down) and sgt. Debruyne. They were in the Congo when the Belgian army was fighting the slave traders and these guys were captured by one of those. When Sgt. Debruyne was offered the opportunity to get to safety, he refused to leave his officer behind to a certain death and returned to captivity. It didn't matter much as both of them were killed soon after anyway. A statue was erected for them in the coastal town of Blankenberge and several cities have streets named after these brave soldiers. As usual you can of course use them as you see fit. The extremely talented Paul Hicks sculpted these figures, with the assistance of Iron Duke for the weapons and Griffin Moulds cast them.

They are lovely sculpts; really dynamic posing and realistic posture.

Who is the sculptor?

@OP, interesting choice and nicely executed. Looking forward to Crisis, if nothing untoward happens.

If anybody goes to Crisis and gets these figures but doesn't want them keep me in mind as I'm willing to buy them.

sorry cause i've already posted it but i did without any caption..the following image by great Belgian artist James Thiriar depict exactly what Johan told us about the two minis...Serg De Bruyne and his officer prisoners of Arab slavers...Serg De Bruyne had, during a pour parler between Belgian officers and slavers chiefs on the two sides of a river, the chance to escape diving in the water while the askaris covered him from the other side...as suggested to him by their Belgian camarades on the other side of the river (probably shouted in French or Flemish as, i suppose, the arabs did'nt had an interpreter or a Ipad with on line translator at hand ;)....the heroic sergeant prefered to remain in captivity with his boss and face certain death... the minis probably depict the scene at the moment of their initial capture in battle by the slavers
