Help With Conquistadore Barded Cavalry
« on: October 15, 2019, 09:41:12 AM »
What the title says. I've got a painting commission that includes some Eureka Spanish on barded horses and I can't find any reference at all on materials or colors. Can anyone help me out?

The ideas I have are Ral Partha Leather (a kinda deep tan color) for undyed/unbleached heavy cloth, black and white stripes, or yellow and red stripes. Of course I have no idea if any of those are appropriate.

Jibbery style oinkery which don't make no damn sense.

Have you got a source for the barding?
I ask as it looks very unusual.

Given that the infantry use undyed linen quilted armour, I'd assume it'd be the same for the horses?

I know the figures you mean. Quilted linen.
Em dezembro de '81
Botou os ingleses na roda
3 a 0 no Liverpool
Ficou marcado na história
E no Rio não tem outro igual
Só o Flamengo é campeão mundial
E agora seu povo
Pede o mundo de novo

If you want good variation, I can only see conversion work as a solution.

The Assault Group do some excellent Conquistadore cavalry but without bards.

TAG Horses:

The horses don't have barding but perhaps you could find some suitable plastic horses convert one model, but some blue stuff and cast some basic moulds that you could then clean up with some putty on the vaious horse poses.

Sounds like a lot of hard work and TBH, it will be.

My understanding is the barding was a 'field modification' introduced to counter the missile weapons employed by the natives against the Conquistadores' most powerful asset - their horses. In that respect I would expect them to be made of unbleached linen with cotton stuffing like the medieval Aketon... in a variety of natural tones and colours, plus sweat and grime....
Warriors dreams, summer grasses, all that remains

I've already got the figures, and he hasn't indicated he wants more of them yet.

Given that the infantry use undyed linen quilted armour, I'd assume it'd be the same for the horses?

Yeah, that seems the best bet unless someone knows different. Not much color going on in the army at all it seems.

Thanks for the responses.
