Making your own portable gaming mat
« on: October 21, 2019, 06:42:13 PM »
I recently made my own wargaming mat from scratch, with results that I am happy with
I was going for a less green/less northern Europe look and instead seeking a drier Mediterranean feel.

I've done a full tutorial with WIP pics at my blog here - hope you find it useful

Wow! Really nice. It's very nice of you to do the tutorial. I had one question though. You say you added bits of cloth to the calk? Can you explain this a little bit? Thanks
LS :)

Great tutorial and mat :)

How much do you water your PVA down for spraying flock on?

Actually, I found this to be hit and miss.  I watered it down too much to begin with and then had to ad more glue.
The final concoction was the consistency of milk, which dried relatively quickly and wasn't lumpy.  I did two coats.

Thanks

What I mean is that I allowed the caulk to half set, then when it was tacky I pushed a bit of cloth onto it and raised it slowly
As I did that, the tacky caulk formed ridges which gave it texture. This allowed the dry brushing to be more effective.

Hope that helps!
