Thoughts on Battlefield in a Box terrain?
« on: November 24, 2019, 07:25:56 PM »
I have the old Citadel grass mat which has sat barren for too many years. I'm looking to start some fantasy skirmish gaming on it and am looking for suitable terrain. I don't have a lot of time for scratch building as my limited hobby time has to go into model painting, so what are people's thoughts on Gale Force Nine's offerings?

I think that the range is very good for what it is.Nice to use straight out of the box.Got quite a few different pieces from them and want more of the new sets that have come out recently.

I've got a few of the gothic ruins, some rocky outcrops and some of the mesa type stuff.

Quality is good, perfectly use able straight from the box. And price wise seems reasonable for the size and quality.

I have, and enjoy using, several of the river and stream boxes, as well as hills, crags, and gothic ruins. Absolutely love them.

Be warned, they have a tendency to disappear - the rivers were unavailable for quite a while, and the gothic only returned this year after three or so years absence.

They are fantasticm can't recommend them enough. And what Skyven says...they are prone to disappear again. So if you are on the fence and have the budget: get them. You can always sell them for a good price if you won't use them.

I've got their ponds set and a big tree with a small stone tower build in it that I can't find anymore on their website.

Very happy with the tree, great model, albeit pricey (but I had it ordered overseas). Lakes aren't bad, but I tend to prefer printouts for water as they lie flat on the table and it's easier to have models placed on them (this is especially true for the Pegasus plastic river, GF9 ponds are flat, with the exception of the outer raised rim).

I've only tried one product, a set of frozen ponds. I was really happy with them at first, used them in a few games, but then, after a few months of not being used, when I dug them out again they had warped! As a result I've steered clear of the range since.

I dig them very much, especially the 15mm items, that mostly work for 28mm as well. Some of the codes are just incredibly hard to come by and the availability is often a problem, at least in Germany.

All thwir linear terrain - rivers, roads , ponds etc warp
But, they do straighten up easily.
The resin stuff doesn't  warp but is fairly basic compared with other 15mm terrain makers but it is painted.

Good feedback, all.

Anyone have experience with the large vs small pine trees? Will the small pine trees work for GW LotR or are they more for smaller scale like FoW?

Also, any tips for storing BiaB products?
