Return of the Vampire: a Pulp Alley Halloween AAR
« on: November 03, 2019, 08:55:04 PM »
My third annual Halloween Pulp Alley game was held at Pro or Con 2019 in suburban Detroit. This time the fabled vampire Count Chokk Yula did not put in an actual appearance, but a varied set of combatants converged on an abandoned warehouse district outside of London to destroy the dread Vampire's coffin. The first pages of the after action report are below, and a full-sized 7-page PDF of the entire game can be found here:

http://wrgmr.com/proorcon19/return%20of%20the%20vampire3.pdf

The rest of the exciting story is in the PDF!

For those of you who are not North Americans, the name Count Chokk Yula was derived from this iconic American breakfast cereal:

I was talking aloud to myself. A habit of the old: they choose the wisest person present to speak to; the long explanations needed by the young are wearying.

What a fantastic set up.  The painting of those miniatures, the terrain and the scenario screams brilliance.  All brought together with a wonderful comic.  Fantastic.   :o :o :o

Beautiful stuff -- minis & terrain all great, and a first-rate AAR.   :-*
I have that steampunk table mat myself, as well...it's perfect for the setting.   ;)

What a great story.
Loved everything about it.
A question if I may,
what was the size of the table you played on?
Thanks.

I am overwhelmed by the kind words! Thank you! And yes, the players did indeed have a great time! Some of the most intense brawling match ups I've seen since I started taking Pulp Alley to local conventions. Certainly limiting visibility to 12 inches contributed to that!

Great stuff, pleased to see the Highgate Miniatures Vampires in action as well. ;) ;D

I have many more Highgate Minis awaiting some paint.  :-* I actually tried out Citadel Contrast Paints with these. They do a nice job on faces, hands, and hair, and clothes with lots of texture. The black of the vampire's clothing didn't look as good, so I re-did them with "real" paint. Even the textured bits (except for the faces) have a bit of a "rough" look. Actually, if you check out the coffins, they were all done with just a single coat of Contrast Paint over the Wraithbone primer.

Still have two more vampires to paint...thought I'd try some different colour schemes, maybe orange-teal, and purple-red-blue. Certainly no one has had the audacity to try those combinations!  lol

A question if I may,
what was the size of the table you played on?
Thanks.

This is a very nice gaming mat, and as ragsthetiger aptly noted, it's perfect for the setting. Also easy to take on the road! It's by Micro Art Studios, is mousepad-type fabric with rubber backing, and is 100 cm square (or just over 39 inches).

And I must admit I stole the idea for the scenario from Mr. Jaye Wiley (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=119607.0). All of his Fistful of Lead rules variants are wonderful and fun. In fact we just played a 6-player game set in the French and Indian War using his Horse and Muskets rules.
