Hi all!

I'll keep all the updates on this thread as we go along.

Bad Squiddo is working with TooFatLardies and Sarissa Precision to expand our Home Front WW2 range, including new vehicles, guns and rules.

We specialise in 28mm female minis, which is why this focuses on women only, though there are a few chaps involved! They fit excellently with the existing chap models you no doubt own.

TooFatLardies are writing rules and scenarios which will tie in with the miniatures, for maximum fun.

Our existing range already covers medics and various ATS (Auxiliary Territorial Service), Women's Home Defence and Land Army.

Take a look! These are all available now https://badsquiddogames.com/shop#!/British/c/36713219/offset=0&sort=addedTimeDesc

We've produced all of this range so far traditionally but are taking to Kickstarter following the success of our previous campaigns to get some real movement in expanding this. It will start of 24th November.

The WW2 range is my personal favourite, and I have been loving burying myself in research.

Some acronyms for future reference:

WRENS - Women's Royal Naval Service
WAAF- Women's Auxiliary Air Force
ATS - Auxiliary Territorial Service
WVS - Women's Volunteer Service
WTC - Women's Timber Corps/Lumberjills
SOE - Special Operations Executive

We will be covering all these and more.

The better the KS goes, the more we will be making, so all your support is...immense...and more cool minis!

First mini to show you (we have more, but it would be spoiling you to show you them all at once!)

One of the Lumberjills :D

Keep an eye on the thread as I update it with news and pictures!

Thank you so much for reading

Any plans to expand into more nations besides the Russians and British?

Wehrmachthelferinnen were in particular subject to even more contemporary criticism and more of an effort to be swept under the postwar rug than servicewomen in other countries because of how dissonant the concept of female service was with the extremely patriarchal attitudes promoted by the Nazis (the allies were also happy to help ignore the issue of their service having prolonged the war). Flakhelferinnen were probably the most common and famous, and would be a neat counterpart to the British AA teams, though they were in other services, especially towards the end of the war. I don't actually know a lot about how extensive the use of Helferinnen became - perhaps one of our German friends know of sources for this?

Then you have the much more splashy presence of the American WAC/WAACs (including WAC translators and relay operators who did serve in combat theatres and so might be useful for games with an intelligence component - similar to the SOEs), SPARs (Coast Guard), WASPs, Air evac nurses (probably the closest any American women got to combat other than WASPs being attacked en route to their destinations), and of course workers across the entire American economy, factory workers, railyard maintenance workers, construction welders, etc. who had no uniform, unlike the Land Army. There were even a handful who trained for the marine reserve and the national guard (receiving regular infantry training)!

That said, I know all of this has to be able to sell at least enough to recoup costs, and the home defence of Britain against what-if invasions is a much more popular and robustly-supported scenario than similar invasions on American soil. And of course there's also VBCW. Helferinnen would at least be suitable for late-war games set in or near Germany, but I wouldn't know if that's enough.

A CANADIAN local hobby store with a small selection of historical wargames miniatures (mainly from Warlords). They also have a great selection of paint and hobby accessories from Vallejo, Army painter, AK Interactive, Green Stuff World and more.; https://www.kingdomtitans.ca/us/

@FramFramson

Elite Wargames and Models currenty do a set of female flak crew as part of their own women of WWII range. Admitedly I'd like to see more of Bad Squiddo's of course. Though with the niche subject matter fufilling everyone's wants may as you said not be economical. Especially where other companies are already producing similar figures. However it may be the unique poses and sculpting style which attracts customers to any particular vendor, as are admitedly products not always so easy to find without excessive searching at times.

Personally I'd like to see more female figures in Winter clothing for Eastern Front (and potentially modern) gaming purposes. However warmer climes is definately what most gamers out there are playing.

Hello! I've been so busy I haven't been able to update, but alas here I am!

Axis will be coming next year, I finally got hold of this holy grail reference book I have been after (THANK YOU PAUL MEEKINS!) and more Soviets, and more everything. WW2 is my favourite era to make minis for, so fear not, it is all coming. Just in stages as I'm still a lil company with a lil budget, which is why I am trying Kickstarter for this to increase the range and get more out there.

KICKSTARTER LAUNCHED!

We're onto 15th December. This one is longer than usual as it's very people driven. Want something to exist? Nag for it :D

The "stretch goal pool" I am finding exciting. You can vote for certain things to be unlocked sooner and other cool interactive things.

And we're halfway funded already so soon the real excitement can begin!

Ooh, I'd be very interested in any pigeoneer figures to give as Christmas presents. :)

Those pledge levels are well put together. Simple, and you know what you're getting. The initial lot of figures unfortunately don't fit in with my collection. However I'll keep my eye on any stretch goals, and of course if there isn't enough for me there at the moment things will wind up on your store page in time.

Glad to read about the potential for Axis and Soviet figures. I'd love to have a whole platoon of female Soviet figures in winter clothing  - as you can pretty much do with the models in Summer clothing at the moment (barring lacking a few things which people can of course convert themselves).

...Anyway, rambling. Best of luck with this. I can see this one working out awfully well.  :D

Thanks for all the hard work you do, Annie.  Any chance to add nursing sisters in ward uniform to complement the ones in battledress?

Thanks all!

Yes I missed nurses off the list, but there is totally a chance of them happening during the Kickstarter, all depends how well it goes,

Almost funded too, then the madness can truely begin!

The ATS with rifles on the Kickstarter are still mid sculpting, but for a good idea of what they will look like, here you go!

The Kickstarter is historical but with the opportunity to use them for "what if" style pulp scenarios. So while they were not in active combat, many were trained in the use of rifles and other combat methods in case of the invasion of Britain.

So the minis could be used to show them training, or full on in combat, depending what game you're using them for and well, whatever you want to do - they'll be your minis!

Ours will be wearing the gear shown here, and wielding Enfields of course.

The KS is nearly funded so get on in and we can start unleashing some stretch goals!

thanks, Annie,

I recently re-watched 'The English Patient' (for inspiration for my WWII in Italy project) and determined that I need to represent Hana on the tabletop.  I've already painted her in Bad Squiddo battledress!

I expect all services had different nursing uniforms.
