Any examples of Swedish and Danish warships?
« on: November 10, 2019, 04:43:40 PM »
Looking to do something different for Black Seas: Scandinavian navies.  Does anyone know where I can find information (especially drawings, etc.) of the Danish and Swedish navies of the Napoleonic period?
It could be worse

It can be very tricky finding information on anything that isn’t British (or to a lesser extent French) online or otherwise. There’s a forum where people making models for the computer game ‘Naval Action’ have been collecting information, from there you can follow their links to various museums and so on.

https://forum.game-labs.net/forum/28-shipyard/

For example:

If you are looking for ship plans and paintings I would second the recommendation of the Naval Action forum shipyard section. The members are from all over the world with a significant Swedish and Dutch contingent. There is also a Swedish ship, the Wasa in game. No it is not the famous one that was raised and is not a musuem but a subsequent one built in the Napoleonic period. That and photos of models should give an idea of colors used. You can't go wrong with a red lion figurhead with light blue on the upper works!

Also Amazon sells and inexpensive book of plans from the famous Swedish naval architect Chapman which I have for reference.
