Early crusader range comparisons - 1st Corps to Perry
« on: November 20, 2019, 06:03:27 PM »
Hi all,

I've been trying to no avail to find a comparison of 1st Corps and Perry crusaders - does anyone have a decent picture showing them side by side? Alternatively, any other recommendations for 1st/2nd crusade in 28mm?

Thanks!

Alex

Have you tried searching using 'curteys miniatures' rather than 1st corps?  :)

I don't think there's a Curteys Miniatures site anymore is there? I could be wrong(?)

Go onto the 1st Corps site, all ranges listed on there now.

I think you will struggle to find other ranges to fit in with the Perry range, which is superb but slightly smaller than others.
Crusader Norman and El Cid range from North Star are OK as 1st Crusade, some of the Gripping Beast fit in well, and also size wise.
The other range to consider are Foundrys New Normans.
The major advantage of the 1st Crusade is that not much had changed from the Norman of 1066, IMO.

I think I have a Lion Rampant retinue that has both 1st Corp and Perry's in it. My recollection is they fit fine. I will try to remember to  check in the am.

No you are not wrong Atheling but if you type 'curteys miniatures' into Google, the result you get is the 1st Corps website and they are still often listed as Curteys in comparison images on t'web.
Black tree do a small number of 2nd Crusade figures but there are the usual caveats regarding their ability to deliver.
Also, I think you would find them chunkier than the Perry offerings.

I would advise anyone not to order from Black Tree Design(UK) at the moment, I have had a order in since July. no reply to emails, and still shown as not sent, shame as some of the 2nd Crusade Figures are nice.

I still get emails from them for new figures and sales for various ranges.

Sadly, that's certainly not the first time that's happened over the years Steve  :(

Keep at them!!

Yep, I am still waiting for them to correct an order from almost a year ago. I got an email saying they would fix it and throw in some extras, but of course, that never happened. It's a shame, especially because I have two BTD German Motorcycle combos I acquired second hand, and would very much like to add a third, but it seems like just throwing money away.

I won't say what I honestly think of BTD as it would probably get this post deleted as potentially defamatory, but suffice to say they are not a company I will ever do business with again.
