Basing questions for 3mm Ancients Projects
« on: November 13, 2019, 03:05:10 AM »
Well, I finally have my 3mm Romans. I want to base them for Warmaster AND Triumph/DBA.

So, a question…

If I use 40mm width bases, does it really matter what depth they are if I play Warmaster? For example, can an artillery unit based at 40x40mm for DBA/Triumph work fine as an artillery unit for Warmaster?

If you have an opponent using 3mm ask them if they have a problem with 40mm x 40mm artillery bases.

It shouldn't make a difference as artillery/machines don't really have base sizes in Warmaster, think the rules say "if they fit use them/if not you can make your own".

Warmaster movement is measured from the front and I don't think artillery can move backwards, Retreat = Destroyed for artillery. I imagine that renders base depth irrelevant.

In WM Fantasy - most artillery was based 20mm wide, and 40mm deep. Generally in WM if you have a wider frontage than standard this is a disadvantage for you, as fewer of your stands get to fight.

The only time I can see more depth being a possible problem is if being charged from behind, as the deeper units may be contacted first, stopping other units being contacted. But this seems rare enough not to be a problem.
