This is Shadespire!
« on: November 16, 2019, 12:54:46 AM »
I love this title. It has the space-based, boardgame-y gameplay that I love in games like Blood Bowl and Space Hulk, in the coolest ruined city since Mordheim, and has some fantastic warbands.

Oh, I'm not as big a fan of the BeastGrave setting, so will continue to keep my games in the Mirrored City.

Here's a collection of my current warbands, but I'll be updating this thread over the coming months (years?) with this project.

couldn't agree more with you mr. hooligan.

and particularly so the move to beastgrave from shadespire - which I think is a mistake.
I have the latest sets, and the boards are so dull and lacking in clear, atmospheric, detail in comparison with the city boards.

love your paint-schemes and paint-jobs too.

Thanks!

I'm pretty particular and prefer the Shadespire boards to the Nigthtvault ones. If you look at the two, they seem to be by different illustrators with the Shadespire boards having far more granular detail. I went so far as to buy a second set of the Shadespire boards from a bits seller of ebay.

I'll look to do a post on my Shadespire/Nigthvault/Dreadfane terrain soon. Though really it's all Shadespire with the latter two being locales within.

I'm no fan of the rules but it certainly is producing some striking and characterful minis, more so even than Warcry.

Shouldn't that "gargant" (it's a giant - call it a giant, a gragant is Ork titan eq in Epic, dammit) have a Dwarf riding him if you're going for the Master Blaster paraphrase?  :)

Did a conversion for a guy back in the WFB days with that kit.  An undead giant converted so the top of his skull was sawed off and a cockpit with control levers and stuff inside it and necromancer "piloting" it.  That was fun.

Pictures?

Love the warbands, Jack.  Excellent photographs of some beautifully-painted miniatures.

Mordheim is my favorite miniatures game of all time.  Wish they would go back and do something for it, as they have done with Necromunda.

Sadly, no.  It was done a long time back (whatever year the kit first came out - was it even the 2000s?) and I was still casual about commission work and saving photos for the portfolio back then.

Made a Underworlds display out of a piece of the classic Arcane Ruins set.

The red skin on those Khorne guys is great!
I don't know anything about the setting, so it is nice to see someone caught up in it. You've certainly piqued my interest.

Very nice work there.

The undead figures are still my favorites, though.

super stuff.

like the 'coal' effect for the dwarves (or just dark-skinned if 'coal' wasn't the aim!). Suits them very well. Really helps avoid the grotesque 'cherubs' effect the fyreslayers are prone to imo.

Thanks for the kind word, gents!

'coalskin' is correct. That's one of the reasons I went grey. Hopefully to make it look like they've adapted to a lifetime around fire...if not looking like little furnaces themselves.
