15mm Xyston Carthaginian Army
« on: November 21, 2019, 11:46:00 AM »
Due to work commitments it's been a while since I have dropped by LAF, but things have quietened down a little so I thought I'd post a couple of pictures of a recently completed Xyston Carthaginian project:

A few more pictures on my blog, for anyone interested: http://tinmountain.blogspot.com/2019/11/15mm-carthaginian-army.html

A grandiose spectacle! Stunning!
And from a distance, the most eye-catching is the shields, which are very well done!
Congrats for your paintjob!

My very first 15mm Ancients army was Later Carthaginian, so it evokes a lot of nostalgia. Though mine were Essex and had nothing like the animation or character of these.

Xyston were always my favourite for 15 (18mm) miniatures, though sometimes i cursed at the fiddliness of separate shields and weapons, and how hard they were to fit onto 'standard' ancients basing, but done well, they just look terrific, and you've achieved that here. Really nice looking army.

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Yes, the separate shields and spears are a definite nuisance and I take a small plastic container with me whenever they take the field to ensure I collect any fallen bits. Thankfully last game we had it was only one spear and a shield, which I thought wasn't a bad return.

I always had a sweet spot for Carthage. Your army fits exactly what i had imagined them to be. Great!

I had too! In my painting life  :D (i don't paint minis any more), I had created three different 15mm Carthaginian armies, they (sadly) do not belong to me any more...

Did Nellies and chariots ever appear together in Punic armies?
