Pretty good terrain piece. Great idea and what I can see from the pictures very well crafted.

This is the start of my terrain boards, using a 2 foot by 2 foot, 1 inch pink foam board, I did a rough layout then carved away what I didn't want for a dry stream bed, I sanded the bed a little then I laid out the 12 inch by 12 inch cork and cut it out as well then glued everything down, covered it with another board packed on books and weights and just let it set for a few days.

The next step is, I will cover the stream bed in very fine sand, and start the painting and sealing process, at some point down the road I will frame it all out and add a base, for now this is going to work out just fine.

Here you can see some of my terrain pieces on the board.

Here you can get a better sense of idea of the size with figures on it.

I plan to make more of these boards, all flat that can line up with each other, that can cover a 4 foot by 8 foot table then just add the extra terrain pieces.

Thanks for taken a look

Doug

That is a mighty undertaking! I'm looking forward to seeing the grand scale of this.

Those rock formations are still tops for me. One of the truly inspired terrain pieces I've ever seen, and wish I could replicate.

Andrew Thank You.

It's really not that hard to make the those rock formations. It's all cardboard cut and stacked in layers.

First I start an idea of what I kind of would like,

Then starting with the base I work my way up, using the last cut out as a template for the next so that I can figure where and how deep to make the next one.

When it is all glued up I just let it sit for a day or so.

Then cover in tissue paper, then let dry.

Now that it looks like some sort of frosted layer cake! Now it's time to cover it in Sprinkles! Ok it's really not Sprinkles or Sugar, it's extra fine sand the sand I use is pool filter sand that is very fine. Then let dry again.

Then prime and paint.

Give this a try! I suggest starting with a small piece then work up to something larger. they are hard a durable these in the photos are a couple of years old and are still holding up really well a hair of warping on an edge or two but it's an easy fix just add a sliver of cereal cardboard and done, no more rocking!

Thank You Andrew, You should give it a try they would go great with the work you already have done. I plan to make more but I want to do the next set in greys for forest and mountain terrain.

I just bought a lot of pre-made rocks... would have been unnecessary with this great advice of yours. Really good scratch-building skills!

Really nice river bed! Do you plan to do one that isn't dry?

Nice rock outcroppings too, the cave is a nice touch. Expecting an Arachnid to come lumbering out of it and drag a poor passer by in  :D

Yes, I do have plans for other boards with rivers and streams to have water in them.

So I had some time today to work a little on the terrain board that I have started.

I added sand to the river bed today!

So here it is as of now with all the extra sand knocked off.

Now I will just let this dry before I start painting   :D
