Great War Germans. What’s your favourite recipe for Fieldgrey?
« on: November 30, 2019, 08:50:39 AM »
Gentlemen
I am planning a 1917/18 WW1 project for next year and was wondering about paints.
I rather like my Feldgrau to be be fairly green-ish and actually use Citadel’s Death World Forest

But for Late War I thought maybe something more grey-ish?

What’s your preferred recipe?

Thank you for any inspiration  8)

Not mine, but there's no debating Mark's ability to inspire: http://over-open-sights.blogspot.com/2014/11/ww1-uniform-triads-from-ak-interactive.html

And in case you miss it:

"...my normal field grey recipe of a base of VMC Olive Drab, a mid tone of VMC Field Grey and a highlight of Field Grey lightened with the addition of a little light grey paint."

Yup....that's what I use for tunics. For the late war rtunics in Field Grey and the trousers vary in shades of dark grey and some brown. Puttees in shades of dark grey.

I find the early uniform is more grey and later the grey-green prevails. I use VMC German Field-Grey as base for the tunic.  And mix darksea-grey into the basic colour as a second step. Then I brighten it by adding bleached bone.

Rather greenish uniform skirts were to be found nevertheless with the jäger companies.

I think that the tunic M1916 was similar in color to the tunic of the Wehrmacht.
