“In practice it produces something akin to a 3d potato print version and I have to spend ages fixing it ::)  “

It’s the clean up that does the trick then.

There’s a manufacturer that regularly spams LAF that I’m quite convinced actually carves their models from potatoes. I think they wash them first but the jury is still out on whether they peel them. At least they are biodegradeable I suppose.  :)

lol

As predicted the loft tool was equally helpful and frustraiting...  though I got there in the end...
Probably.  Though I might revisit it again and tweak the shape a bit more.

Picture upload is playing up today so no pics yet.

Cabin shape is a bit of a pig but I think I've got it roughed out.

Question for you all:
The canopy is going to be thin and fragile- it'll have 4x ~1mm legs holding it up.  The legs could be cast from white metal I guess but it would be extremely flimsy or have to be significantly overscale.

Would it be better to leave it out altogether and allow people ot add their own from copper wire and a roof of card or similar?

I could add dimples in the deck to show where to drill and provide a template for the supports and roof perhaps?

Yes, I think that would be the best solution. 1mm steel rods are what I would use and most model shops carry them. Alternatively Empress might consider including pre-cut brass rods, like the packets of pikes many manufacturers sell but simpler as nobody need hammer the blades flat. There might even be something in selling boutique packs of 1mm and 0.5mm rod. That’s what I use for aerials and rigging for biplanes, etc, etc, etc.

It needs to be oven ready when it comes out the box as many wargamers are not modellers. Therefore go overscale.

If this is done in a way that can easily be stripped down and modelled we can then do a how to model it with rod etc for the true expert / fanatic of which there are a few on here.  ;)

OK!

The canopy will be seperate anyway so will be easily replaced by those so inclined.

Fair call, you have a better grasp of your market than I.

I’m not really a modeller by choice myself and seek the easy option where possible. I just accept that somethings that I want require me to DIY or modify them. On the other hand glueing four bits of wire into slots can’t be a more daunting prospect than glueing part A to part B, surely? If someone balks at that, they’ll have a bugger of a job putting that AAMG together.

I hope to convince Paul to let me include a tool to help bending wire for the roof if you should so wish to source your own.

I feel that it will greatly enhance the model but it will also make it more fragile and tricky to assemble.

But I guess that then runs into why didn't you provide the wire/etc perhaps another can of worms...

TBH its pretty bland, lots of flat or smooth surfaces.  Starting on the detail now.  Hardest part will probably be the Mk18 grenade launcher, I'm struggling for decent drawings.
