15mm WW2 Interests? Would appreciate input.
« on: July 14, 2009, 11:53:47 PM »
Hi, guys.

As you probably know, I've contemplated doing 15mm miniatures with the BaP line; there are a lot of periods I'd like to cover (as with the 28mm stuff we're already doing), but it seems to me that starting in a very popular genre (such as WW2) would be more likely to generate interest and provide the impetus to do the other interesting (but perhaps, less popular) stuff.

Our goal is to do something a bit different (as usual), so I'm not interested in doing the normal "Americans and Germans in 1944" range that seems to be done by most 15mm and 28mm manufacturers. Nothing wrong with that whatsoever, it just seems over-saturated at the moment.

The above suggestions are things I've got on my list as very possibly leading off any 15mm WW2 range. They are taken from personal interests as well as suggestions by gamers over the years, particularly the last few months or so. Would you favor me, if you're a WW2 gamer, with your opinion? Just let me know what (if any) of the above interests you. If not, there's an "Other" category that you can use, just let me know what you'd like to see. As always, I'm open to ideas.

Before you ask, it is likely that we'll eventually be doing Pulp and Weird War II in 15mm eventually, but the basic troops are more likely initially.

Thanks!

-Doc (Alex)

No-one has ever done the Vichy French and their various native troops for Syria and North Africa.  Thats what I would like to see.  And next is Italian Alpini, who fought in all theatres of WWII including France, Greece, North Africa, Russia, Sicily and later changing sides and being the first Divisions to fight the Germans in Italy.

Danes and Norwegians could be ok, but short-lived perhaps, but how about Finland ?
Also Poles, either 1939 style or Warsaw uprising.

We have a small school club (currently playing Arnhem - see our thread "Abridged Too Far") so I'll ask their opinions this morning.

All of your input is most welcome and encouraged. My thanks. Please keep it coming. I can't guarantee that all of it will happen, but I am seriously considering every option at the moment.

Fastolfrus - thanks much for asking your group. I'd be interested to hear what they think.

As for the Norwegians being "short lived", they actually held out longer than any of the other allies to be invaded, except for Russia itself. That means longer than the Poles, the French, the Belgians, the Dutch, the Danes, etc... I've always had a warm place for them in my heart, I confess. Incredibly brave people.

(Well, all of them were. But the Norwegians really did some heroic things, given what they had to work with.)

I'd have to vote for any of the colonial types... Vichy French in Tunisia or the Lebanon etc, Sudanese Defence Force and of course the Greeks. However I wonder how many people would want to game these theatres?

I've a Romanian army for FoW, and wouldn't mid a few new guns/gun crews and crews for tanks and such...

However, I would certianly jump at 15mm early war Dutch.
(and colonies? I don't know how much fighting they did in the East Indies, but I'm pretty sure they fought the Japanese)

Syria is a untapped wealth of wargaming alternatives. Free French v Vichy French, Free Foreign Legion shooting up Vichy Foreign Legion, British and Indian Cavalry in large numbers, Australians, Senegalese, Arabs, all the funny early war British and French tanks.  Heaps of fun.

The Dutch In the Dutch East Indies put up a great fight against the Japanese.

More thoughts -

how about Hungarians ?

If you're thinking of doing Greeks for 1940, how about Greek partisans too (since most other manufacturers do Russian partisans or French resistance, but Greek or even Italian partisans seem to get overlooked)

Fast -

The original plan was to do Hungarians, beginning with cavalry, but we were beaten to the punch, partly due to my fault and partly because, as yet, I haven't found a 15mm sculptor! As much as I would be proud and happy to do Hungarians, they are already covered by at least two other manufacturers, and I don't wish to oversaturate the market. I suppose there are a few specialty troops (Paratroopers, the St. Istvan troops) that aren't yet covered, so it's a possibility.

Partisans are an excellent idea. We've also been thinking about an historical 28mm range, and partizans have come up more than once in the discussion.

I wouldlike to see additions to established armies:
Vampir IR equipped 1945 Germans
Luftfaust equipped 1945 Germans
E-10 to E-100 tanks

Japanese with SMGs, Jpanese with satchel charges...
Stuff like that... 8)

I'd like to add Czechs (1938) to the list.  ;)
