LPL13 - Favourite Entries
« on: December 15, 2019, 05:21:34 PM »
I have gathered together my favourite entries of the tournament from each painter. They are presented below in no particular order.

Bloodsbane - Reinforcements are Coming (Round 10)
I really liked the composition of this and the painting and scenery are so crisp. It's a wonderfully staged set up.

Syrinx0 - Empty Bed Blues (Round 9)
This oozes character and charm. The colour scheme is excellent.

Mr Tough Guy - OUATIAGFA (Round 9)
This is a really crisp piece of work with each figure popping.

Maledrakh - We are Ogres with RE not OR (Round 5)
Great selection of figures. The slightly muted colour scheme works perfectly with each one. Proper Old School stuff.

Tsar1701 - Champions of Ruin (Round 8 )
Very well painted figures with subtle highlighting and shading that I'd love to be able to do myself. Great work.

Colonel Mutumbu - War in the Crownlands (Round 7)
Very well painted figures in a 'snapshot' vignette. This is a very well put together piece.

McMordain - Much is Demanded (Round 4)
The silverwork on the painting drew me to this one. It's very crisply done and makes the figures look really smooth.

Pulper - Greenskins (Round 5)
Some of the best painted orcs I've ever seen. Ever! The blending work is phenomenal.

Hubbabbuba - Arbites (Round 5)
Black is very hard to paint and get to look right, but this does it, and does it very well. Lovely work.

Sinewgrab - Post Apoc Gang (Round 2)
I really like the composition of this with the shanty town backdrop and the Mystery Machine. The colours are spot on for each character.

Dr Mathias - Relic Seekers (Round 5)
The blend of quirky Rogue Trader-esque figures and smooth colours really make this entry stand out. Fantastic work.

Captain Blood - Moonlight Sonata (Round 1)
It's ok, I suppose!  lol The painting on this is so amazingly rich. It suits the very detailed miniatures extremely well. The set up is also perfect for the subject matter. Excellent work.

OSHIRO Models - Orcs on the Prowl (Round 3)
More proper Old School stuff! Great figures painted up very well indeed. Oldhammer quality.

Calimero - Troll Hunting in the Dark Ages (Round 4)
Nicely painted figures and a fun composition. My favourite bit is the guy on the far left seemingly breaking the 4th wall by staring right at the camera!

Nikkobourges - Warg Riders (Round 4)
Very natural colours contrast with the orc skin to create a very pleasing finish. Lovely work.

Awu - AWitus Commitatus 40k (Round 5)
Cracking miniature selection. The colours on this are perfect for the subject matter. This can't have been easy to do, but it's brilliant!

Ogrob - King in the North (Round 7)
Another crisp entry with very natural looking colours used. Very nicely done.

Westphalia Chris - Captives of the Hyperbolemurians (Round 8)
The composition of this is just brilliant. It really captures the look and feel that Chris was going for with this. It could be from a film.

The Black Crane - Tercio (Round 9)
To go with anything under 25mm is usually a big risk in the LPL, but this works very well. The flags and rows of figures don't even look like 18mm they're so neatly painted.

Silent Invader - Whitechapel Slum Tour (Round 9)
Lovely painted figures in a great setting. It's all the details in the background that I love about this. Great composition.

Orctrader - Prussian Jagers II (Round 9)
This is just such a crisply done piece of work. The uniformity of the painting across the figures is excellent.

Taltos VT - British Wounded (Round 7)
This is a great composition. Every figure has been so well placed. It's a really characterful piece.

Gnomehome - Smog Finale (Round 9)
They're very unusual figures but the painting scheme and subtle colours ties them together very well.

Khartoum2 - Kill Team 4 (Round 7)
Good use of colour on these to both tie the figures together as a unit but also add some contrast to make elements of it pop.

Excellent idea Elk, really interesting to see your picks, plus there's something from everyone.

I could have picked several entries from each painter and in some cases I changed my mind a couple of times, but the ones above really stood out for me. I'd have all of them in my collection quite happily.

If I am honest, that is probably my favorite entry as well of what I put forth.  I was very pleased with how they came out.

Great selection Steve

It's very interesting as you have what you think are your best entries  and then a totally unbiased viewer chooses a different entry.  It shows you're not always the best person to judge your own work.  Really enyoued this Steve

I'd be interested in what was your favourite? I liked the mix of models and your approach to the paint schemes on that particular entry. I almost chose either the Crime Club entry, which was nicely shaded and highlighted, or the round 9 entry with the large beast. I think it was the distance of the shot that convinced me to go with the kill team over that one. It's obviously different for you seeing them close up though, I would guess.

I would have gone for the Who Us in Round 5.  It just shows how we all see something different in what we paint and I'm happy with the number of figures I've painted this year, it's kept me in mischief bit there' still lots more to do.

A couple of years ago I did a figure running through the 10 rounds - Maybe next year I have another figure that might be fun to hide away each time
