Ma.K in 1/20 and 1/76
« on: December 19, 2019, 04:31:14 PM »
First pass at camouflage.  I see where the triangles need to be more pointy.   Anyone else have some advice?  Comments?  Criticism?

I like it. A pin wash will help with definition.

Where did you get the kit from btw?

Thanks.

I got a bunch (I splurged) from Tenbowkissa in Japan.

Very good service, packaging, and quality.

You need to email him a list and he'll send you a Paypal invoice.  It's not very automated.

Great resin and multi-media models!!!!

To be brutally honest, I think it would have been better to mask off the coloured splinters using low-adhesive tape, then stipple the paint on half-wet rather than trying to paint them free-hand. At this small scale, it looks a bit untidy, and any line that is kinked even a bit looks off. It's not that tricky to do using a steel straightedge and a scalpel or modelling knife.

I am also not really convinced by the green. It looks a bit too saturated to work well with the more blueish grey tones otherwise present, but you could add a paler layer of a mix of an olive green tone such as 70.823 Luftwaffe Camouflage Green mixed 2-1 or 1-1 with 70.884.

Thanks for the Tenbowkissa pointer, BTW! I had my eyes on those for some time and am happy to hear they will ship outside of Japan.

Great ideas.  I'll see what I can do to desaturate the green.  I think I used that Luftwaffe Camp Green, actually.

Thanks for the advice.  Much more helpful than "gosh, that looks sooooo nice."

1/20 Snow Camouflage Ma. K. SAFS
« Reply #11 on: December 23, 2019, 07:35:45 PM »
My son requested snow camouflage in gr ay and white. And he requested this particular pattern. Then he revealed to me that he does not like these Machinen Krieger models because they look funny to him. He was trying to pick an ugly camouflage scheme as revenge.  This is the mind of my 7-year-old.

But what do you guys think of this pattern? Any advice? It doesn't quite look right but I think that this kind of snow camouflage is feasible with just a little more artistic input.

Insignia and weathering will come later as will the other colors on the joints and details.

First pass with a four color camouflage.

What do y'all think?  Still have another pass or two of each color, especially the khaki.  Then decals, wash, drybrushing, and so on.

Don't worry, Chris, I'll control for the different color saturations.

I like the colours chosen and the jagged edging (e.g. between the blue and green on the turret).
