BSC2020 Codstiker Ruined Gatehouse
« on: December 22, 2019, 10:20:42 PM »
I am going to take the BSC 2020 as an opportunity to add another structure to my Kodsticklerburg project. Most likely a partially destoyed and burnt gatehouse or smithy.

Had a quick look at your blog - excellent work.

Either a gatehouse or smithy would look great

Finally got a bit of a start on this. The building is inspired by such fortified manor house as the famous Stokesay Castle:

... and Bars Court:

I worked out a floor plan and did a sketch of what I wanted the basic structure to look like; a side view of the top floor, followed by the floor plan for the bottom floor and then a side view of the bottom floor:

And even got one of the long walls cut out with an arch:

Here is a GW Warrior Priest to give an idea of scale:

My initial reaction is the wall and subsequently the arch is too high. I may knock a couple of centimetres off and possibly make the entrance square so it looks less like a castle wall and more like a building with a large entrance.

I can't remember where it came up as "Bar's Court" but I thought maybe it was the specific building and Ightham Mote was the complex.  :?

In fits and starts I got a little more done. A couple of times I pulled stuff apart and put it back together again. ::)

I did a bit of experimenting, parttially on purpose and partially by accidenty. The dab is Polyblend Sanded Ceramic Tile Caulk (bone colour, for those that are curious). I actually meant to get the sanded grout which comes in an identical tube but I left my readers in the truck. The issue m,ay come up when I attempt to paint it as the caulk contains silicone.

I am waiting on more styrodur to finish the other long wall and the local store is out of 1/4"sq bass wood.

I also have to cast up some flagstone sections like I used on my last Kodsticklerburg building to go around the outside of the building.

While I'm awaiting supplies I will start on the roof, or rather, what is left of it and make some interior walls and some bracing.
