Trees for Japan Scenery
« on: December 26, 2019, 05:45:30 PM »
Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for tree kits for Japanese scenery? I've got a couple of the Citadel woods painted up like cherry blossom trees, and I'm not really interested in those fluffy pink tree kits out there. The typical KM and Citadel deciduous kits don't look like they belong in Japan.

So..... looking for ideas.

My first thought was look at what Hobby Link Japan has to offer and sure enough they do cherry trees in blossom.

Amazon are selling a ‘Japanese Red Maple’.

You might want to consider searching for Japanese model railroad shops but be aware that the most popular scale is ‘N’ scale so circa 1/150. You might end up with bonzai versions if you are doing things in 28mm.

Woodland Scenics have the largest range going, either complete or kits & you should be able to find something suitable in their range. A lot of the Japanese railway tree kits are very similar to WS.

Alternatively make them yourself, twisting wire for the armature, covered with DAS or any other modelling compound for bark & add foliage to taste.

Thanks guys. I was just looking at the JTT Scenery trees and they're pretty nice, but expensive. Good thing I only game a Kill Team size area.
