How About A Small Silver Mining Old West Town VS Werewolves?
« on: January 01, 2020, 12:45:49 AM »
Has it ever been done in film, or novels or (I hope) miniature gaming?

And, if Werewolves Vs Cowboys has already been done in wargaming circles, what rules were used or suggested?

Thanks

PS.  I’m one of those who likes one or two creature variables in fantasy settings, as opposed to an entire universe of fantasy or horror creatures.  In other words, I can only suspend my belief in small doses.  So, in this case, one type of monster against the humans ... werewolves.  :)

... Dog Soldiers,  a bit Magnificent  7 for modern times ... :)

That’s absolutely the best description I have ever read for Dog Soldiers!  Lol

I did a little more digging ... Has anyone seen BLOOD MOON?  Here’s the trailer:

Also, there seem to have been a couple of comic books too:

So it’s about time someone did a game or two based on the premise (cowboys VS werewolves), wouldn’t you think?  :)

Gaming wise, Dracula's America is pretty close to this.

Wow.  As a movie or a game?  Or both?

Gaming wise, Dracula's America is pretty close to this.

Interesting.  Is that a strictly human VS vampire game universe, or does it include a whole runaway mess of other fantasy/horror creatures as well?  Like I said, my ability to suspend belief has some definite limits.  :)

Dracuala’s America has a whole host of different supernatural creatures within it (including Native American skin changers). But you don’t need to use them all - the core game engine is good and would give a good game without any supernatural parts.

But if you have a preferred Old West or Skirmish game it may be as easy to add werewolves to that, as to get DAM and leave out lots of bits.

Where are the tyrannosaurs in F-16s?
The laws of probability do not apply to my dice in wargames or to my finesses in bridge.

Lol. I can only handle one major discrepancy in the reality matrix in any given scenario:

Cowboys VS T-Rex, okay
Cowboys VS F-16s, okay
Cowboys VS T-Rexes flying F-16s, not so much

Just the same way that I like my monster movies.  One - and only one - monster type for the whole film.  Once you start adding more, the horror effect turns into comedy.  :)

I dunno.  But Blood Moon seems to be on (Amazon) Prime Video’s lineup.  I found it there earlier today and selected it for viewing later on, when the missus is busy elsewhere.  She’s not a big fan of horror.  :)

Love the High Moon image :-*

Me too!  I wonder if the inside pages are just as cool.

THWG High Moon rules might work for you but you would need to have normal humans on the Werewolves side (I think) if you only wanted to have one, also Pulp Alley rules would work for this as it allows for building very powerful horror creatures, plus it has a horror deck that would add to the uncertainty of the game.

Hope that helps & that no matter what why you go about us you come back & give us an AAR to let us know how it all went :)

I have a couple of their rules already, so I’ll look it up.

Thanks so much!

Dan
PS.  My wife suggested a few buildings (cabins?) on one corner and the entrance to the silver mine on the opposite corner, leaving the middle with some miners’ shacks, woods and a gully, ravine or something irregular terrain.  So the goal for humans would be to safely escort the civilians away from the vulnerable “town” and toward the protection of the silver coated mines.  How does that sound?

IIRC the final season of Penny Dreadful had a Wild West werewolf encounter.
