This project just sounds like a lot of fun, Cacique Caribe.

Your questions:

"What would be an appropriate name for such a small mining town?  A clever compound name?  Or something foreign-sounding, on the topic of silver or the Moon, perhaps?  Suggestions?"

Something with "silver" in the title?  Silver Hill, Silver Creek, or something.  Or somebody's "Luck" (Calloway's Luck, Van der Berg's Luck, etc.)?

"And how many of the residents do you think would be properly prepared for the raid, with silver bullets and other choice weapons and defenses?  Any thoughts or ideas?"

You said earlier that the werewolves had left this town for last, so I would think most are all of them would be prepared, since they would likely have heard word of their fallen neighbors.

Thanks so much for the replies.  Spot on.  I do wonder how the silver would affect the range and accuracy of the firearms.

I am currently looking at using these 2 HO-scale paper kits as “templates” for making actual balsa and basswood counterparts.  They’ll be done with removable roofs:

1) https://www.modeltrainsoftware.com/pages/mb-free-building

2) https://www2.illinois.gov/dnrhistoric/Preserve/Pages/construct_LincolnBerry.aspx

To these I’ll add a couple of tool sheds, etc.  then surround the area with woods, and a road to the mine entrance in one direction and to the outside world in the other direction.  Perhaps even a small stream.

Thoughts anyone?  Too simplistic for a skirmish game?

Dan
PS.  Here are 3 more suitable structures, if the top ones don’t seem enough:

3) https://www2.illinois.gov/dnrhistoric/Preserve/Documents/Shastid%20House%20model.pdf

4) https://www2.illinois.gov/dnrhistoric/Preserve/Pages/Construct_thomas.aspx
And one for the warmer regions of the world:

Makes you wonder why "The lone Ranger" used silver bullets!?   :o

Did he now?!?

If so, there must have been a big part of the story that was left out.  :)

EDIT - Look at what I found:

Nice find Dan!

Yes he did in the old black and white TV  series,  it was like his calling card. Other then "Who was that masked Man?".

The fictional story line maintains that a patrol of six Texas Rangers is massacred, with only one member surviving. The "lone" survivor is found and nursed back to health by an Indian Tonto. They travel  throughout Texas and the American West to assist those harassed by lawless elements. A silver mine supplies the Lone Ranger with the name of his horse as well as the funds required to finance his work. He makes his signature silver bullets to serve as a calling card of sorts. I am not sure he ever used them as ammunition and it was never used in the movies, radio or TV show to deal with supernatural creatures.

I guess i missed it all.  The truth is that I came to mainland US after they stopped playing those reruns.

Maybe that’s why I’m intrigued over Westerns now, in my old age, when I can pick whatever I want to watch or play.  So many Westerns, so little time.  :)

Well I tried my hand in doing it.

I set up my Western Town and got out my werewolves. I used Fear and Faith with some Western variant rules that I have found on TMP and LAF.
I made the Earp brothers, Wyatt, Virgil, Morgan and Warren along with Doc Holliday "monster hunters" taking on four werewolves. Worked really
well but the werewolves won in the end. So much for hunting monsters! Maybe they will do better against the skeleton gunfighters I have.

Sounds like it was a fun game!  Did you get to take any pics?

How many figures per side did you have?  What sort of terrain?  All “urban”?  What would you do different?  What would you keep the same?

Cacique,

Alas I am a non-tech person (I still use a flip phone) so no pictures.
To your other questions;

Figures per side: It was the four Earp brothers and Doc verses four werewolves.

Terrain/urban: I used my painted Hovel western town (which is beautiful) with some trees, two wagons and various barrels ect. Totally urban.

Do different: I may go with one less werewolf. The Earps killed two but then were overcome. In Fear and faith werewolves are fast and
tough to kill. Once they got into melee with the Earps they had a big advantage. When they Earps could use there weapons (they had silver
bullets as they were monster hunters) they had the edge.

Keep the Same: Most of it. The rules are good especially with the Wild West variant rules. I have also now re-fought the game using skeleton
gunfighters. This game was a victory for the Earps. I also will be doing it with zombies, Vampire gunfighters, Wendigo, mutant Confederates and the Gothic gunfighters from Artizan.

Any other questions just let me know.

I do wonder how the silver would affect the range and accuracy of the firearms.

Probably not much, the density of silver is only slightly less than the density of lead, and only slightly harder on the Mohs scale.

Anyone remember 'The Beast Must Die'? A millionaire uses silver bullets by the clip in an Uzi! A silver mine could provide plenty of decent ammo for those pesky varmints no doubt.
'Sir John ejaculated explosively, sitting up in his chair.' ... 'The Black Gang'.

Excellent info, Cubs.  Then it shouldn’t prompt any rules changes from normal limits for lead bullets.

Thanks so much.

Tonight’s a full moon, isn’t it?

Perhaps I’ll finally watch Blood Moon.  I’m feeling an uncontrollable itch behind my ear, and an overwhelming need to howl.  :)

Imagine if a werewolf got fleas that  would be a big frontline spot on 😂😂😂

UPDATE - Just watched Blood Moon.  Not bad at all.  I can definitely see some gaming potential.
