Thanks. The fire front is only a few kms away from us. Only wind direction has saved us these past couple of months.
Best wishes,
Helen

I want to echo these sentiments. A client of mine lost their home in Buchan, and I know too many people affected by these fires (I live just outside the warning areas, thankfully).

Agreed - be as safe as possible.

I have a gaming friend and he and his wife lost their home in the Paradise, California fire in 2018.  While all in all he is doing good, he does admit to being somewhat depressed a year later.

Hope the loss of life in Australia doesn't rise as high as what happened in Paradise but I fear the loss of property will end up being much higher.  And, of course, the impact on wild life is horrendous.

Safety first - no thing matters as much as your lives.

Yes, I have quite a few friends from Melbourne who went up the coast for Christmas or who already live there. Luckily they are providing updates via Facebook so I can keep an eye on them, but it almost seems there isn't a safe spot on the entire damn continent.

Oz has historically tried to kill the residents in any number of creative ways, but it seems mother nature has gotten quite serious about it this time. Stay safe, all of you, and have a plan in case anything heads your way, because sadly it seems it's going to be a very long fire season this year.

36 today,41 tomorrow where I live in the Southern Tablelands. Driven through a fire already to get to work (about 30ks out of town),friends and family okay so far, although Starkadder (once on the LAF) was all packed up,horses and all.
It feels, I imagine a bit like the Battle of Britain, checking the radar, wind direction and so forth. Getting ready for the next onslaught.
I reiterate, stay safe everyone.

PS Helen I hope it stays that way.

Well if there is any upside to it all it was the warm, heartfelt greeting our twat of a PM received yesterday in Cobargo. Surely there must be scenes of devastation in Hawaii he could be visiting instead?

Yep, keep safe. I used to work out of Lakes Entrance, and when I moved to Canberra I spent a lot of time on the South Coast, at Bateman's Bay and Mystery Bay. One of our friends is in her car trying to get back from Bateman's Bay, and another six friends have been evacuated. We think their houses are still standing but it hasn't been possible to check. Our friends in Canberra where we lived, are now struggling with air that is hazardous to breathe, and the place is wreathed in smoke.

And the Australian PM got the reception he deserved. He was the one that brought a lump of coal into Parliament and declared it was the future. Next week, he's off to India to try and sell some more coal.
