Is there any records of it ever seeing combat?? It looks crazy, but at the "so crazy it might just work" end of the scale!

I'm not sure, but as the article mentions, 600 were produced starting in '56 and they were in service long enough to receive an updated version in '59.

That's too late for French Indochina (indeed, the traumatic failure at Dien Bien Phu seems to have inspired a whole stream of bizarre inventions designed to support French paratroops and colonial warfare - some of which were even successful! Such as the AMX-13 75/90/105 series of light tanks), but it's certainly not outside the realm of possibility that some saw service in say, Algeria, or any of the other "sunset" French colonial affairs during the late 50's.

Of course, for something like VBCW, well, the sky's the limit, lads!

(Well, you'd have to leave off Vespas and 2CVs in particular, since they're postwar, but you get the idea. Morris Minors and the like would be fair game!  ;)).

Oooh, the wiki page for motor scooters has some very interesting prewar possibilities if you look at the section marked "First generation": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scooter_(motorcycle)

No doubt there are more dedicated sites out there with plenty more machines on display.

Sorry Fram, the first Morris Minor was built in 1948,the MM,850cc sidevalve,so too modern for VBCW.

Oh I'm a silly bugger. Was thinking of the Austin 7.

One of my cars, albeit 1948 as well was used as an armed forces runaround, the Morris Minors bigger brother, the Morris  Oxford.

Oh hey! Apparently there WAS a prewar Morris Minor (which seems to be a knockoff of the Austin 7, more or less), and the more famous one simply recycled the name.  lol ;D

(That Oxford is in such nice shape, btw)

Or vice-versa,the famous Morris of the pre-war era was the Morris  Bullnose.
Car manufacturers tend to re-use names, the mini can also be a Minor  ;D
