A Gloss For Oil Washing
« on: February 02, 2020, 01:22:08 PM »
Afternoon all,

I’ve been having fun learning to oil wash recently but I absolutely hate airbrushing gloss varnish - my brush really struggles.

Any advice on a rattlecan gloss that’ll do the job. Presumably it needs to be acrylic not oil based to work.

Krylon Gloss? Their Matte spray works very well.

Not really- once cured (say 48hrs) it should be fine. Just to be safe, work your oil wash gently.

Ah OK - that’s interesting, I assumed the white spirit wash would bite. I think they sell that in Wilco’s so I’ll pic some up. Ta.

Best to test.  I have had my white spirits break down well set, primed base coats from a couple of different manufactures rattlecans.  I would worry about the effects on a varnish.  I test every new rattlecan with white spirits now.

Ok thanks - looks like maybe there isn’t the easy answer I hoped for! I just hate airbrushing gloss.
