Some brilliant painting there!

It is interesting what you said about Army Painter washes. I have definitely noticed a different quality with my newest bottles which matches your description.

If anyone does want to try this out, I also strongly recommend using Citadel washes, not their Army Painter equivalents. I was a fan of AP washes for years, but the bottles I bought last year were very different from before and, to be honest, pretty rubbish. Too shiny and they pool in some really nasty ways.

I have had the same experience but only with their Shade series of washes. I even tried using the medium they sell for it and that really just made it worse.

Thats said, I actually quite like the colour tone washes they sell but maybe I got some old stock

I think the AP colour washes I've got are pretty old and I haven't tried them in a while. But the new bottles of Strong Tone and Dark Tone are bad - and I bought a few of each as I wanted to use them for terrain. I can still use them for that purpose, but add a bit of flow aid and AK Interactive Ultra Matte Varnish so they actually do what they're supposed to do. Even then they're not as good as Agrax and Nuln Oil. It's a shame really.

Grots in the woods:

Actually painted these guys back in January, but they've been waiting to be based and varnished all this time. Really enjoyed painting them. They require just the level of effort I'm willing to put into painting these day - very little!

More gobbos on the go at the moment.

Really nice! How people get such lovely smooth skin tones I'll never know?

Lovely work here. Thanks for the painting recipes too: some good ideas to go away and try.

Thanks folks. :)

Last night I made a wee display board so I can photograph the warband as it grows. Just a flat just-over-a-semi-circle of foamed PVC behind which I can place some scenery. It hasn't warped at all which is nice. It was also a test for making a mini gaming board. Really enjoyed making it.

Superb. I love those eyes.
Below is a link to my blog. It's the place where I write uninteresting things about little toy soldiers. I do this because I refuse to grow up and behave like an adult.
