Wonderful painting - very evocative of the time period.

Thank you for the kind words.

For these Landsknechts I used the following paints.

Cygor Brown. Very dark mostly for pikes and belts
Gore Grunta Fur. Lighter brown for crossbows
Aggaros Dunes. Leather stuff
Skeleton Horde. Very light brown or broken white
Apothecary White
Guilliman Flesh

Ultramarine Blues
Ork Flesh
Blood Angle Red
Gryph Hound Orange
Iyanden Yellow
Magos Purple
Space Wolves Grey

With these colors, you have a really good core to work from. However, for more nuances in the clothing, they have different versions of each color, which will be necessary if you plan on using them on more troop types.

I look forward to trying them out on different periods later. The end look is quite clean and bright and might not go well for dark age models! I will have to see.

Cheers
Erik

Even though its been a month since my last update on this post I have not been completely idle. I have painted this small unit of arquebusiers. The miniatures are from Old Glory and are definitely some of there more successful ones. Old Glory can really be somewhat of a gamble but these guys are very characterful and a joy to paint.

Great job. I am really falling behind on these Landsknechts.

Great work! I am really afraid of getting near the pile of Landsknechts in my closet. You have brought me an inch closer!  ;)

Another unit of landsknechts joins my growing army. These guys are Foundrys marching landsknecht pikes. Very cool models!

I have used contrast paints again. I am still very pleased with the overall result, but I must admit that as the number of contrast painted units grow, my existing army takes on a completely new, much brighter look, that I am not quite what to think of.

The unit is 36 strong mounted on 6x4 bases.

Nice figures and an excellent job of painting with those contrast paints. This is surely going to be a most colourful army.  :-* :-*

Nice job. The whole army must look amazing.
Blind your enemies with colour, they won't be able to hit you!

This really makes me want to finish the free sprue of Landsknecht from the past Wargames Illustrated issue. Unlike you I really don't seem to have the dedication for army painting.

If the contrast paints are too bright mix in some complimentary colour paint or give the parts of the figure a dark wash. (I have zero experience with contrast paint, but do sometimes work in glazes and washes)

Thanks for the tip Dragonwyrm. I have been thinking about giving them a wash of softtone from Armypainter.

I rather like them being bright and colorful. Landsknechts should be that.
Reserve the dour and drab colors for the Swiss

Wow.  Your pike block is even better than your arquebusiers.
