Galactic Heroes rules question
« on: January 27, 2020, 11:07:32 AM »
Hi, got a question about the Armor rule in Galactic Heroes.

Armor give you "a -1 to be hit in combat, and a -1 to wound rolls against you. Reduce moves by -1” per action". All this is pretty straightforward.  :)

Wanting to add elements from Wasteland Warriors for a couple of characters - namely helmet & shield respectively. The descriptions for both of those says they "add +1 to a figure's Armor roll". When's the armor roll made? Is this a reference to a different armor rule in the core rulebook?

Hopefully someone can help answer  ;)

Quick answer: Yes. The Core Book changed how armor works.
You can lift parts from all the different books and use them fairly easily but not this one.
Galactic Heroes is a stand alone book and was written before the Core book, which is meant for all current (Tales of Horror and Wasteland Warriors) and future supplements so players don't have to buy a rulebook that is 30% the same as the last one because the core rules are fundamentally the same.
Also, you can always PM with specific questions or reach out thru FB or our store contact.

Wasteland Warriors uses the core FoL rules that have an optional armour system. Light armour and Heavy armour in that system have a die roll that they use to deflect a hit.

The equipment you mentioned add to that die roll. It is detailed on page 36 of the FoL rulebook

Galactic Heroes doesn't use that system and instead has the Armored and Heavily Armored traits which just modify to hot and wound rolls.

Don’t deflect, but an armor save reduces effect

Thanks BaronVonJ & pixelgeek for the quick responses.

Only got Galactic Heroes, so will look at getting the core book as well. Noticed that there is some scenario pdfs as well!

I think, all told, I've written close to 100 scenarios between all the books. Easily adaptable to other periods/genres. Somebody on FB posted that they took the new GH campaign book "Dark Day of the Destructo Ray" and used it for feudal Japan.

I've got both, too. I've settled on GH for the moment, but I feel Core+expansions is the future of the system.

Looks like I'll be placing an order at Oshiro then!  :)

I'm not on Facebook and so can't ask the group there.

Given the enforced isolation at the moment, is there any hints and tips for playing any of the FFOL rules solo?

It's being worked on but no idea as to release date yet. It'll possibly be a free pdf.
cheers

Believe me, if there was an easy way to make they solo, I would have. The very ting that makes them special (card driven mechanic) makes them hard to play solo.
I can make a solo game, but keeping it the same game is hard. I've set aside Bigger Battles for the moment to try some other option even playing some online versions.

There is the recently released Frostgrave: Perilous Dark which deal with playing gamess in general in solo or co-op modes.

https://therenaissancetroll.blogspot.com/2019/10/entering-perilous-dark.html

Horizon Wars: Zero Dark has a very detailed solo system but I don't know how well it would adapt to GH

https://www.wargamevault.com/product/306209/Horizon-Wars-Zero-Dark?src=hottest

Over the Horizon has a simpler solo system

https://www.wargamevault.com/product/282834/Horizon-Wars-Over-the-Horizon?src=hottest_filtered

Some quick suggestions

Use the scenario to determine how to place tour opposing force

Deal out your own hand for activation but none for the opfor

Pick your highest card for activation

Reveal the top card of the deck. If it beats yours then an opfor unit activates first. If not then you activate

If the card has a special rules then apply it to the opfor unit that would benefit from it. If not then activate the closest unit that has LoS to one of your troops. If no LoS then closest opfor unit.

Assign a type of activity to the card suit
Diamonds - move toward scenario goal
Hearts - recover or use special ability
Spades - fire if possible
Clubs - move into CC if possible

If no LoS then just move towards cover that is closest to scenario objective
If the activated

Thanks. I may try to get a game in using them.
