General Pettygree's: Battle at Milne Bay, New Guinea
« on: January 31, 2020, 01:22:30 AM »
Usually General Pettygree posts Colonial or Pulp stories. However, on this occasion here is one from early WWII. It is our adaptation of the desperate 1942 Japanese invasion of and Australian defense of Milne Bay, New Guinea here:

---
The story is told by briefly captioned photos. The game was held 25 January 2020 divided into morning and afternoon sessions. Why not go there now to see how each side performed? Several hundred 28mm miniatures maneuvered and fought across a 6'x24' table. An easy read.

Plus, there are a few rules concepts explained based on the USA experience at the Shuri Line on Okinawa we have adopted into our game dynamics; just in 2019.

What a great looking game and interesting AAR.  Thanks for sharing.  It’s neat to see something different, at least for me.
Hail to the King, baby.

Ragbones,

Yes it is different. Thank you for saying so and for your interest too.
I hope others take a look.
My AARs are written in a different style which might be helpful.
Plus, there are some rules concepts in play which might be useful.

I really enjoyed reading that, quite tense in places!
A question Bill if I may, your Australian Infantry have brown boots. Would Australian soldiers in the Western Desert, Tobruk period, wear brown boots. I ask because I have a bunch of 8th Army figures, some with brown footwear, that I was going to repaint black. If these are meant to depict Australian Infantrymen I won't bother! Hope you can help?

Apparently all boots were brown - until you applied boot polish....now not saying the Aussies were lazy.....but polishing boots cuts into the drinking time....  o_o

I painted boots brown per the Warlord book, Campaign New Guinea.

It is part of their ensemble for Bolt Action rules.

Cheers,
Bill
