Grandad and the Boys - Return to Dedburgh
« on: February 02, 2020, 02:17:00 PM »
It has been a while since we posted a game set in Dedburgh.  Again we played Grandad's version of Akula's Rules.

The story:
A reconnaissance flight was sent over Dedburgh Quarantine Area (DQ) searching for a "lost" aircraft that reported an imminent collision with another craft.  The lost RAF plane was carrying a full load of bombs.  The photos as revealed the crash site, an unexploded bomb and an unidentified crashed aircraft.

A nearby army unit was tasked to carry out a ground recce.  They were not told that the wreck was a possible Alien UFO.  But they could see that the suburb was infested by zombies.  Not just folk with mobile phones behaving like zombies but real undead zombies.  There are also indications of surviving residents.

Two under strength sections set off.  One commanded by Aiden (callsign "Wee Bro")and the other by his big brother Callum (callsign "Big Bro") enter the board.

"Hey Big Bro, I'm going left flanking. Up the road through the courtyard and then round to the left of the construction yard. What you doin'?"

"Hi Wee Bro, OK.  I'm headin' up the centre to recce how many Zeds are on the square.  If too many I'll follow you up in support and guard your back door!"

And so off they went.  And almost immediately, "Hey, Wee Bro, CONTACT! This place is swarming!  Speedy Zeds, Shamblers and a Fatty Tank to my front and incoming. The big fellow just lobbed a dirty great boulder at us.  Rotten shot thank goodness!  More coming through the wall. Watch your rear."

A little later, "Hi, Bog Bro, CONTACT, some live ones in Courtyard house.  Going in quietly, watch out for Fatty Tank on the street!"

"Hey Big Bro, SITREP Sent four armed civvies back down cleared route. The central square occupied by Zeds and dead bodies. Swarms of Zeds spilling out of the village hospital.  Avoid area and follow my lead."

"Big Bro here, rescued 5 survivors.  Detached Eric to escort them out of DQ." Followed a few moments later "CONTACT! Zeds closing in.  Engaging Now."

"Dammit, there's dozens of them.  Disengaging. Watch out we are closing on your rear."

"Hey Big Bro, cross the stream. All Zeds cleared. I've left Susie to guide you."  Then "Closed up to the big ruin... Bloody Hell! What's that?  I don't believe it a kid is hiding here... WAIT ... that's no kid it's a sodding Alien! A real live Alien."

"Hey Wee Bro, great story HA HA!  Been swiggin' yer hip flask?"
"It is true I tell ye"
"Aye right!" (the famous Scottish double positive meaning negative."

A minute or two later.  "Hey Wee Bro, OMG you are right - there are Aliens!  Susie and Sandy just found one wi' a gizmo.  I owe ye a pint!"
"Mibbe ye'll get a medal too!"

"Hi Big Bro, I see you.  Watch out the place is swarming with Zeds!"
"Thanks, I see them. We'll join you.  All round defence.  Right?  Good Grief another Alien in the wreck!"
"Roger"

"CONTACT - getting swarmed!  Need help Wee Bro!  They got Fiona - just ripper her apart and they bit Angus."

"Hey Big Bro, Look South - a helicopter!  I'm firing a Miniflare! Red! ... He's seen us.  Make for the park.  I'll form rearguard."

"Hey Wee bro, all aboard, time to leave!"
"Roger, that Big Fatty just hit Donald with a stone. Piling in now.  There's hundreds more coming!"

"Take off now. Go! Go! Go!"

One soldier dead (and eaten).  One soldier bitten (not infected), two hit by stones, 5 survivors rescued and three aliens escaped and a "gizmo" captured.

The hardest mission so far and much fun was had by all.
