Down the black hole!
« on: February 07, 2020, 03:13:48 PM »
After resisting for 50 years, I have given in and purchased Napoleonics!  Stick8ng with small forces and using Fistful of Lead for the Peninsular war.  I decided to go with Front Rank, as I like being able to choose individual figures.

Hmm, facing colors, piping, dolmans, kolpacks, busbies, helmets, shakos, cocked hats, oh my. Early Napoleonics, Mid-period, Late? Oh yes, choices, choices.
And the glorious general led the advance
With a glorious swish of his sword and his lance
And a glorious clank of his tin-plated pants. - Dr. Seuss

Nick, are you sure you don't want to dig that hole deeper and go with Perry's 40mm figures?

Haha, no.  All of my terrain is scaled to 28mm,  thankfully.

It happened to me too.  Swore I'd never do it.  Now I have French, Spanish and Russians.  Lately I've been thinking about Austrians.  It's a nightmare.

Ha Nick welcome to Napoleonics! I have painted my first 6  Front Rank only last week.

It's not such a black hole. I collected most of my figures (600+ ?) second hand over years and the units are already undercoated and arranged into battalions. It has taken me this long to summon up the courage to start painting them though!

I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

2019 Painting Challenge :
figures bought: 500+
figures painted: 57
9 vehicles painted
4 terrain pieces scratchbuilt

I have a load of 15mm Napoleonics. Some of the French go back to the late 70's. I have a large (by my standards) French force, Austrians (1809), Prussians (1813-1815), brigades of Bavarians, Nassau, a Swiss and a Neuchatel battalion and a buddy has a Russian army (1812).

We have been using Bloody Big Battles for grand tactical and have been shopping around for battalion/regiment/battery level rules.

One of these days the Austrians are going to face the Russians a la 1812.

Before that I had 25mm Minifig French and Prussian forces, long gone.

The black hole is fun.

It isn't as bad as you think.  I still have my Colonial Napoleonics which has grown over the years.

Herman,
That both amazes and impresses me.  That was quite a collection as I recall.
