Been a while since I read the book but I think the Cavorite had to drop below 60 farenheit to become impervious to gravitation. I think that's how Cavor wrecked his house; when he was experimenting he let the Cavorite cool too quickly and caused a vacuum which would have stripped the Earth of its air had it been tied down. Fortunately it wasn't and it flew off into the atmosphere along with bits of the countryside and most of Cavor's house. Then again I could be wrong and it was all a strange and lurid dream I had........ now where did I put the book?

Been a while since I read the book but I think the Cavorite had to drop below 60 farenheit to become impervious to gravitation. I think that's how Cavor wrecked his house; when he was experimenting he let the Cavorite cool too quickly and caused a vacuum which would have stripped the Earth of its air had it been tied down. Here's a link to a free paper model of the sphere and interior.  It's large, 1/24 scale, but I presume it could be reduced in size when printing.  Fair bit of work, though - lots of repetition.
