Damas' Moongrunt beginnings
« on: February 12, 2020, 11:14:32 PM »
I picked up a basic set of Chinese PLA lunar troops at Salute a couple or more years ago, picked up the US starter set last year, and finally begun doing some assembly.

Here is my PLA force with support vehicle.  Base coat is the usual Halfords grey primer then a contrast paint wash over them, add details and call it done.
Vehicle weapons are magnetised for gameplay.

The first completed model from the US lunar marines.

Can I ask why you have based them in pairs
I was thinking of basing mine on single washers

Yes, interesting. It begs the question, what rules will you be using? I think someone else mentioned moongrunt in a similar post. Is this the beginning of a wave of moongrunt? I haven’t painted the few bits I have yet, apart from GZG’s pre moongrunt pressure suited crew. Maybe that is a project for later this year. I will watch how you get on. Nice work on the Chinese.

Cheers both.  I did the 2p bases as I picked up AK47 at the same time and was going to use something like it for rules.

As is usual for my local club, if it doesn't come complete in a box no-one else will casually buy in so I have to provide both sides, rules and scenery if I want a game.  :-[

They look very nice. I feel a little bit retro, when I see them in these times of 40K. Interesting project

Chasing that feverish dream of a completed army (HAH!) I've already re-based the Chinese PLA Space Force.

and their ride

The current Opfor, US Lunar Marines with the easiest paint job ever.  Spray white, contrast Apothecary White and paint the visors gold and a dash of colour to the shoulder pads.

and their ride, scout buggy and the beginnings of a support weapon section

All the vehicle weapons are magnetised and can be played with.

This is very cool. I must pick up my moongrunt project - using Contrast is a good shout.

I like what you have done with the spare rocket pack mount and the US figures also look good, despite the simple scheme. As a result I have broken out a couple of packs of Chinese and painted them up myself. I am in the process of painting them too. No vehicles yet. I will remedy that at Salute.

Cheers all!

Salute will be my go-to this year as well, more Chinese vehicles and another 6 wheeler for the US.

I've also looked at the civilians they offer for Stargrunt to make an independant faction.  Just need to browse the vehicle section (again) for ideas!  :D

Both forces look very good.  My one quibble is that the PLA vehicle's yellow color scheme looks a little bright for a military vehicle (more civilian utility), though very well painted and "weathered" (funny adjective to use where there is no weather !).

Looking really great, I like your colors very much  they work well together and the color for your windows gives them that "Not to far in our Future" look.
Just remember "If the Enemy is in range, so are YOU!

I’ve done a few of those, armed and unarmed. I borrowed the scenery from my youngest sons school project a couple of years ago:
