Last few from me.
First = My Heroes. Unfortunately I did not paint them.
Second = Film crew move towards the firing.
Third = Much needed medical help, too late for too many.
Forth = Overheard from John's team, 'Well at least there are no elephants in this game!'

Thanks to Ian for all his hard work, preparing & running the game, as well as putting up
with all of our (friendly) banter.
Thanks, as always to Bob (Flatpack) for wonderful set up & scoff.

Firstly....a huge thank you to Ian for teaching us all how to play, being patient and providing the great minis.  Cheers too to Bob for hospitality and for laying on one of the most impressive tables I’ve played on ....very atmospheric.

I do hope I’ve not upset my newfound gaming buddies.....having lost my mojo a month or so back....it all seemed to flow back in a very short aggressive opening few moves.

Not so much 13 Hours.....as 13 seconds!

Despite being led by the wrong Ali (both looked like leaders, both called Ali and both carrying AK’s....how was I to know? Lol) the insurgents who must have been on the hasheesh for all the bravado they stumped up...decided to head straight for the gates of the infidel dog’s compound.

No sooner was the gate in sight, the barrier was raised to allow the two armoured SUV’s out, the third team opting to exit on foot.

With the opening shot of the engagement, my RPG armed fella (can’t remember his name but he is with the virgins now anyway) fired at the grill of the lead vehicle as it moved up to the open barrier.  The projectile failed to detonate on impact but instead bounced up and through the windscreen, detonating in the chest of the driver!  The resulting explosion inside the car killed one and the SUV rolled back harmlessly, smoke pouring from it.

Unfortunately, my chap was so excited to fire off his weapon, he didn’t check his six.....standing behind him, one of his fellow fighters and a civilian who had decided to film the proceedings on his mobile phone.   The blowback from the RPG was the last thing he filmed as he was toasted shortly after!

My guys spent the next few minutes engaging the operators bailing out of the burning car  ( who managed to shoot the RIGHT Ali...leading from the front like a right knob) and the chaps on foot near the barrier., two of which took off on foot after the objective.

The second SUV driver, unable to bring himself to run over the dead and dying laying in the open gate, ordered everyone out of the car.

I managed to kill or grievously wound 8 of the 12 operatives  lol lol but to be fair, this last team, laid on some very accurate fire, and though failing to suppress my drug addled Johnny’s, were able to drop half a dozen.  I had two guys left when hostilities ceased.

I will let someone else tell you what happened to the Kuwaiti money man and the action surrounding him.

So by now, you all know what happening in our Spectre game yesterday.
To summarise, contractors have a great plan to rescue Mr A, but as soon as I opened the compound gate, all hell let loose.
I lost 2 out of my 4 contractors as they opened the gate.
This is move one.
It’s then that I thought I should go and put the oven on 😀.
So, with only 2 men left, I left the compound on foot, into a very excited town...GULP.
After running through a few back streets, my men reached Mr A, only to see him being escorted off the table by the locals. Oh well.
So, that’s my take on the game.

You’ve seen details from has.been and Digits, and you’ve read their take on the game.

Thanks to all for playing, for Ian bringing along his super 28mm figures, and for him running and umpiring the game.

Below are a few more photos from the game.

All quite in the town, before the action starts.

Contractors ready to leave the compound in their silver and blue cars.

Locals view of the compound

Open the gates.

From here, all hell breaks loose as the RPG takes out the first vehicle.

This leaves my men, running thro the streets.

My boys closing in on Mr A

James and Jc doing a great job as the insurgents, clearing the houses, and looking for Mr A.

Top right hand corner. It’s all over, as the insurgents leave with Mr A.

Typical, the press are doing an interview, whilst all, this is going on behind them.

Great game, good rules, good umpiring, good grub, good beer, great company.

Digits, I hope you have your mojo back, as mine disappeared as I opened the compound gate 😀 (only joking).

I do hope so!  Certainly I’m intrigued enough to start building my own Middle East buildings for sure.

To be fair, the picture actually depicts your last two fellas sprinting into Jame’s fire team just before they hosed you with their AK’s.  Having split his team earlier, the others were up the tower having captured and rendered unconscious the Kuwaiti.  Hopefully James has closer pics?

Oh yes I have the money shots  ;)

Firstly here is the close up of Digits first shot with the RPG

and from farther away

As has been already related, while the brutal firefight was going on in the streets near the compound, the other two insurgent teams were systematically searching all the houses .

Somebody in a certain building was getting very nervous ...

Pacing about anxiously- who would get to him first? The contractors or ISIS?

Guess who just arrived outside?

With a sinking feeling Bin Khaled sees them through the window.

Through the opposite window he sees two contractors of the snatch squad

It's too late. ISIS have secured the area and the contractors are ambushed even as Bin Khaled is knocked unconscious to later face the justice of Islam.
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

Yes, the operators in their haste to get to the prize decided to sprint, unfortunately, as the insurgents then appeared in front of them at the building corner, they were unable to bring their guns up before being dropped.  Good lesson to learn.

In fact, my impressions from this, my first game using these rules, are that (as Ian told us) it is brutal.  Once the operators in the compound gate started to return fire, though maybe too late to turn the game, they were very efficient in putting the insurgents down.  Superior training, couples with laser targeting and modern sighting pretty much ensured every shot bagged one of my team.  The poorer trained insurgents needed to rely on the luck of the dice a lot more for sure.  We were lucky.  I dare say we could play the same scenario a few more times and get stuffed every time.

I’m looking forward to playing again and exploring more of the game mechanics and have picked up my own set of rules and a handful of figures.  Unfortunately, having played on this great table, it may be a while before I can amass half the terrain pieces necessary to do so!

I'm glad everyone seemed to enjoy the game, as the alleged games master I was too stressed trying to remember all the salient rule points to relax - had a lay down when I got home! Bob did a great job with the terrain - many thanks, added some real atmosphere to the game.
The Spectre rules work well I think but they are a set that gamers need to learn the nuances of as they go, I suspect different decisions would have been made with a bit of knowledge and I probably missed a couple of things in the confusion of multiple voices. I hope we can do another sometime (if Bob lets me) probably when I've got the Syrian regular army figures and their more effective allies done - I have a cunning plan :)

Hi Ian, one point I thought of afterwards is that the shooting is so decisive that I don't see the need for the suppression points? As  it never had time to built up to make a difference; teams were dead. Maybe in a prolonged stand off firefight it would ?

Peter was selecting single fire and I only had to take the suppression fire test twice.  Had he had more guys standing and firing or firing twin shots, I would have had to take more tests and most certainly would have failed, rendering my squad useless.  Suppressed would immediately see me at -2 on my firing and reduced movement.
